NObdy is questioning Max ability to extract the maximum of his car, and saving lot's of points (although Mclaren and Norris have made his job a lot easier by making stupid mistakes), but we can see how ragged his driving has become, when comparing with his previous "olimpic" form.
Since Newey left Red Bull F1 team in Miami they have lost 5 of 7 races? Looking beyond Red Bull's PR statements, I wonder if Newey leaving is the reason for Max failing? Just last week I read a Story from Ferrari Team leardership that they didn't need to chase Newey or equal other teams bids. Ferrari doesn't need Newey. My sense is Newey was behind Max's domination, and bringing Lewis in to Ferrari without Newey is a wasted effort. Is Ferrari on the verge of screwing up the 2026 next package?
He's in toronto for the indycar race where Rossi broke his thumb and they expressed the most recently fired Theo Porkchops to come to the rescue.... sjd
Couple of observations…ever since Newey announced his intended departure the car/team isn’t the same…McLaren can’t even win right….Ferrari mid season development is atrocious.
I don't think it would be so fast to lose the qualities of a car or team - Newey was part of RB's domination, but I suspect the now troubled fate of RB could have more to do with the passing of Dietrich Mateschitz (who was the one keeping all pieces together).
I would have more sympathy for Oscar if in fact he was making up time at the end. But he was losing time. Poor pr by the team but Mclaren is kicking ass.
My main takeaways: I really like the way Piastri handles himself and am looking forward to seeing him continue to develop as a driver. I would absolutely take him on my team. Norris was in a no-win situation. If he takes the win, he’s a cutthroat dirtbag and if he relinquishes it, he’s weak and subservient. It had to be hard to give up the win and I respect him for doing it. Verstappen needs a Vernappen. Yes, strategy sucked and the car underperformed, but he equally cost himself and his team with that divebomb on Hamilton, who had yet another solid drive. He deserves his penalty. As much as I hate to agree with Croft, he should absolutely rethink his sleeping habits on a grand prix weekend. I thought both Ferrari drivers performed at their best, but the car is just not there. Maybe Leclerc could have managed a podium, but we’ll never know. As I’ve said many times in the past, the problem with Ferrari isn’t the drivers.
Just imagine Norris losing WDC for 6 points.. Mclaren would look like complete idiots.. In the end there is only a winner.
There are more people here crying and complaining than there are drivers.and I think Schmitz is dropping the ball by leaving max out a few laps too long on multiple occasions Or not pulling him in when gaps are closing from pitted cars on new tires. Just like ferrRi used to do
+1 this has a been a large management and board shift with competing interests and agenda's from Thailand to Austria. That in itself ensures change, competition for control and uncertainty on a personal and Corporate level. These interests were most likely under the surface and not as viable. Clearly not the case now. Toss in F1 family ego via the Verstappens and you get even more fun lol
The only thing I can think that they can explain it off by is that they didn't bring Piastri first....but they didn't... take the loss. I'm fairly surprised both VER and HAMs cars held on to the end... that pavement outside of one saved VER twice this race...if that was gravel, it would be a totally different story. sjd
Anyone think Sainz was under orders to let Leclerc pass him on the start? Did Piastri damage his floor running over the gravel? He was six seconds behind Lando when they finally convinced Norris to let Oscar by. (Earlier radio message from Norris: Well, then tell him to catch up. ) That Max/Ham thing looked like a bit of both. Max had locked up and Ham turned in on him. Shouldn't Ham know by now that a locked up car doesn't turn? I'm a little surprised they didn't leave Sainz out to try to hold up the leaders for Leclerc's pit stop.
No further action on the Max-Lewis incident. Lewis said post race interview it looked to him like a racing incident.
Hmm, others have got penalties for less. There was no way VER was ever going to make that corner on that line at that speed - credit to HAM for mostly avoiding him.
One thing is clear- if McLaren and Mercedes continue to be competitive- we will see Max get more and more childish and pissed off. He is not a very mature human.
Verstappen tells critics to “f*** off” after Hungarian GP The Red Bull driver takes aim at his critics following his own condemnation of his team’s race strategy plus reaction to his clash with Lewis Hamilton in Hungary Hey Max your the one who went airborne. They cant hear you LOL Looks like Checo after he ruined Charles' race in Mexico LOL. Almost the same picture!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think you had 2 situations going on: 1) Max had too much speed going into T1 thereby locking up both front wheels. 2) Lewis "moving under braking" and hit Max's rear left tire thereby sending him airborne. Hence a racing incident.
We can second guess here. Most if not all the world saw this as racing incident. Horner and Marko arent complaining either. If this was reversed Id say the same. Egregious this was not. Max was impatient. That run off needs to be gravel and you would see cleaner turn 1 engagements.
