CPO and Tires

I'd ask the 2nd dealer to call the first since they pointed it out!

 

Do you have a full CPO inspection certificate from the dealership you purchased the car from?

 

I agree with the want to sell tires argument. Nothing wrong with 6 year old tires that spend most of their life in a garage. I will commonly go up to 10 years under those conditions. Guarantee the dealer would take your "dangerous" tires and repurpose them.

 

The question should be put to Ferrari directly. Their rules.They can moderate.

 

None of the major tire manufacturers would approve of tire use over 6 years. Some exercise a shorter life span. Thats nothing new.

 

Is that what you recommend to your clients? Just sounds like alot of overkill for cars that get 1,000 miles a year and live in a garage shielded from UV radiation which is the issue.


Michelin recommends replacing tires 10 years after their date of manufacture, even if they appear to be in good condition and have not worn down to the tread wear indicator. This includes spare tires

Pirelli says that there's no scientifically supportable age limit for tires because it's impossible to predict what outside forces they'll be exposed to.

According to the European Tyre and Rim Technical Organisation (ETRTO), tyres can be considered new for 5 years from their manufacturing date.

 

Here is the form for CPO & New Power Inspections ... attached below.
Tires, minimum tread depth is 4mm, nothing stated regarding age of tire ( CPO )
Tires, Line item 5 , " Check conformity of wheels, tyres, suspension, bodywork, exhaust, and aerodynamic components with original specifications for vehicle "

Anything other than the tire manufacturer stating in writing what their guidelines are, is an opinion. ( In my opinion )

I have an opinion as do many other well trusted and respected industry experts, when asked, we share them.

Expecting a CPO vehicle to be "perfect", in my opinion is unreasonable, even when new from the factory they are rarely perfect, after all it's a pre owned car, that has been reconditioned to the written standards from Ferrari.

Can one Dealer " interpret " the guidelines differently than others.... I'd say no, they are what they are.
Can a Dealer exceed the guidelines and another meet them, yes.

p.s. It's interesting to me how opinions vary depending on if one is selling or buying. And the value attached to that opinion as a seller or buyer.
