I'll be the first to admit that Stroll did not have a stellar Belgian GP. Yes he made up places from qualifying and kept it overall pretty clean but he generally lacked pace and was no threat to points.

That's not Lance Strolls goal in being in an F1 car i.e. to score points. His only goal is to have fun in an F1 car. IF Lance Stroll scores points it is because the race came to him as opposed to him racing in a race. He gets lucky scoring points when the race comes to him.

All this is very fine with me.
After 14 races, Lance Stroll stands 10th in the WCC, just behind team mate Alonso.
    That's not too shabby ... ;)

And with less than half the points of Alonso too.

People should stop comparing Stroll to Alonso: they are at completely different skill levels.

Alonso is a former twice WDC driver with many GP wins; Stroll is a mid-field journeyman whose father owns the team.

Agree for both sides of the argument--for those pro-Stroll and for those anti-Stroll.

Right, a current F1 driver ahead of half the field.

More than pretty much everybody on here can claim.

PS: And the third most successful F1 driver from Canada. :)

    Hell no.

Just pointing out that Lance made his mark in the F1 history of Canada. Think about it, there are a few core countries (UK, France, Italy, Germany, Brazil) with many F1 drivers but then there are many countries participating in F1 where the driver history is not quite as stellar and Canada is one of them (The Netherlands would be another, erase Verstappen and the Lion and then it gets rather thin). Switzerland is another (Siffert and Rega the heroes, Surer more like Stroll results wise). And it's not like there were only 3 Canadian F1 drivers, so Lance has indeed achieved quite something within his country's F1 history.

There's a whole bunch of countries. Would be interesting to see an overall statistic. My feeling is that like 60% of all drivers come from the original core countries of F1.

Finland must have more F1 drivers per capita than any other country?

With that little fix I would say yes. They got tons of successful rally drivers on top of their F1 drivers/champions.

If you grow up learning to drive a car and snow is the only surface, well car control becomes part of the mix.

Let's not forget the great rally drivers from Sweden. I personally think it is handling the IKEA shopping trolleys that make them so good at going sideways :D I still do not understand why on earth they insist on castoring all 4 wheels. Makes it almost impossible to roll straight.

But you don't see many Italian drivers these days. Italians are supposed to be very enthusiast about racing, but few make the grade to F1, although many are in WEC and GT3? Maybe Kimi Antonelli will change that, but driving for Mercedes !

Yet some cars have adopted four wheel steering.
How the drivers manage ? ;)

LOL, yeah we should stop comparing him to his teammate.

He also managed to destroy the car in practice, the third time he's done that this season I believe. But, I'm sure he's just about to show that talent...

I think you exagerate for effect.
AFAIK, the car wasn't "destroyed", just damaged. It was repaired and raced the next day.
Funny that other drivers get a pass when they go off track and damage their car (Leclerc, Perez, Albon, etc ...), but Stroll don't.

It was a few minutes in during P3 when the rain came down hard and heavy. A couple other drivers slid onto the gravel but were undamaged. Stroll went through Eau Rouge and was caught out by too much water, the car aqua planed for a moment and his front left hit the barrier.

Calling this a dumb mistake would be harsh.
