This obsession with value / potential future sales is a plague in the Ferrari world. I have well over $20k in “molestation” to my 575 and on track for the same on my 456m. Enjoy the damn things!
That is not accurate based on a proper trend analysis. It has always brought at least the investment to convert if not significantly more in return.
I just don’t understand how Ferrari can’t come up with a modern 2 door sports car with 4 seats coupe like a 456 or a C63 or even a Bentley continental GT. These cars have enough room in the back not like a 911 or Roma or Aston DB12 where you have to be no older than 4 years to fit in. The FF and Lusso were just way too big and the proportions were all wrong. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Speedsters are without a doubt the most over done replicas and they grate on me! Especially when the number question I always get asked is. “Is it real?” Speaking of metal. You can really feel the difference between a fake and a real one. The fakes just feel like you are not very safe on the road. Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
There are many factors in pricing I believe these to be; 1. Rarity 2. How they drive 3. How they look When all three come together then the prices skyrocket! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Oh really? https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2002-ferrari-575m-maranello-30/ The results since then haven’t been as high, but the last one went for almost $150k with fees, IIRC. Find me an F1 that goes for that. And before you say, yeah but it’s $40,000 to convert - I did an OEM for a little over half that. That’s the other point - you can’t compare OEM to aftermarket. Not knocking the latter, but there are a number of things that negatively affect value there. Not long ago there were two OEM conversions at Ferrari dealers for north of $200k and they didn’t last long.
Agreed. Additionally the last conversion on BaT had a marked carfax and an even worse alleged incident of falling off a truck type repair. On my conversion thread…last night I was working on a draft synopsis of that auction while I waited for the girls at martial arts…. and I’ll work on it some more while the girls are at martial arts later this morning. More to come on the conversion discussion (thread).
Don't get me started. Okay, you got me started. It's pure greed. The whole collector car industry, almost completely driven as it is by the live & online auction/TV media complex/social media influencer complex, has become ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. Pure. And. Simple. Think about conversations you may have with your car buddies. Any conversation I may have with, or overhear between, other car guys I know inevitably becomes a discussion about car values and prices. And I think that goes for the vast majority of "car guys"; they don't really care about these things anymore purely as cars. If they did they'd actually drive 'em and enjoy 'em as cars are meant to be enjoyed! But most don't. Because in today's collector car world usage=miles=diminished value. God forbid we might lose money on a collector car! The "collector grade" ultra-low mile cars get traded like cattle, put away into opulent garage-mahal collections, never to turn a single RPM until they get sold (for a hefty profit, plus commish, presumably) to the next guy. And the cycle repeats. Or that is the expectation. Anything to make a quick buck on a flip. Or a killing after a period of time. It's all about the money nowadays, and it has absolutely ruined the car hobby, IMO.
You need different car buddies! I hang with guys that drive cars and ride bikes, rally them, use them. It is rarely about value, but about the experience, from a 20k one to a 20million one.
This is the same for all hobbies, and it’s always been this way. With houses, guitars or any other stuff you can think of
True. However, as a poor boy playing in a rich man's sandbox, I have to be very careful with my gunpowder. I only have so much. I can't afford to buy a Ferrari and lose a bunch of money. My old 1998 Maranello cost me about $60,000 between insane repair bills and depreciation. I'm a CPA, and I still have PTSD from that experience. This means I need to get on board before the ship sails, and the good ship Maranello is pulling away from the dock. I'm hoping I still have time to jump aboard.
I have owned/driven many different sports/collector cars. I decided I wanted a 575 for the Ferrari V-12 experience. Resale never entered the equation. When I started searching it became very apparent , very quickly that this was a whole different type of owner. Sellers would not even start it , let alone go for a test drive. Looky but no touchy. The fanaticism over low mileage is off the charts. Only one owner would take me for a drive and then actually let me drive it. That was the car I bought... My one Ferrari purchase experience because it's the only Ferrari I've ever owned. Maybe I just look like a "Test Pilot"... Having said that , IT IS the only car that I will ever have made money on if/when I decide to sell it.
Maybe I'm being too harsh but I had never experienced that treatment when buying a car before. I had not sold a car in about 15 years before I sold my girlfriends 3 Series BMW 2 years ago on Facebook and it was only mildly annoying. I put my 997 up for sale around the same time and was immediately deluged with scammers and idiots. I lasted 3 days before I took the ad down. Never even got to the point of showing it. I guess times have changed...

Charlie, no link so I’m not following….you mean that sub 5k mile 550 garage queen? That type of car lives on a different planet from a driver level car. Most of us here are drivers not investors….
