Would Lance win if his team had the best car on the grid?

AMRF1 had a top 3 car in 2023 and Alonso had 9 podiums in succession in the first half of the season. Lance was nowhere.

Lance is in F1 to have fun driving an F1 car.

So the question is not whether Lance would beat his team mate over the season but whether he could win if they had the best car. You said no because he can't beat his team mate. To that is my response of the many times he has in fact beaten his team mate. Ergo: If they had the best car, chances are that occasionally Lance would win a race.

I must disagree. Whether Lance has the best-top performing-title winning car, Lance will give you mid-field performance.

Remember, Lance is NOT in F1 to win.

The fact you can write all the times he beat his teammate in a race in a single post, regardless of circumstances, speaks volumes.

 

Everyone knew what Joe meant, you are trying to twist the words to suit your argument. There is no point for you trying to argue it anymore since we already have the answer. When AMR had the second best car in 2023, Lance never once beat Alonso.

I think we can all agree that Lance is not a generational talent and that he is below this level. That said it would be interesting to know who we think he is better than in the current field. My opinion is that Lance is about as good as Perez and that he is better than Sargent, Tsunoda, Zho, and even Magnussen

 

We have the answer to Perez vs Stroll as well. In 2019 and 2020 they were teammates and Perez absolutely wrecked Stroll. I don't think Stroll is really any better, he has shown no evidence of improvement since about his second or third year. Perez might be worse, but he's also being compared to the best driver by a long shot.

I certainly would take Stroll over Sargeant. I would think Stroll is on a similar level to Mick Schumacher, and Magnussen beat him badly. Hard to say if he's better than Tsunoda or Zhou, but you'd have to rank him on that same level.

I wouldn't put Tsunoda on the above list. I think he has improved as a driver and at this point is probably in the top ten. I wouldn't put Lance in the top ten.

 

Stroll is better than Sargent and Zhou. Magnussen is tenacious and better wheel-to-wheel which are two of Lance's biggest weaknesses.
