My 296 GTS has 1300 miles on it and makes all kinds of creaky chassis noises (or maybe suspension). Is this normal?

Comfort seats but the creaking is coming from the shocks or chassis. Especially on bumpier surfaces or at slow speeds. No other car I've owned does this. I'm wondering if I should go to the dealer and drive another one just to see if they all do this. Unfortunately they only have GTBs. Not sure if that would be the same.

It's most likely scuttle shake, modern spider Ferraris like the f8 have the same issue. Scuttle shake comes from the chassis and, most of the time happens on bumpier/inconsistent roads.

Can it be fixed? One suggestion was adding a proper monticarlo bar and shock tower support. Is this possible?

Exactly why I passed on GTS. This was my fear.

I know several GTS owners with earliest and latest production with no issues

No problem like this in my GTS. Get the dealer to check it over and re-lubricate/grease all the likely sources of noise. If he is near to you get him to drive a demo car over the same surfaces to see if it suffers the same.

Thanks. But this is not the only issue with this car. The check engine light came on and they couldn't figure out what was wrong but somehow managed to get it to turn off. Then it went on again and it turned out the oil fill cap had a bent spring. They ordered a new one that took 3 weeks to get here from Italy. The fuel door keeps popping open. There is a tapping sound from the windshield when driven with the top down. The cover over the left windshield wiper is loose and flips up in the air when driving - needs to be wedged below the edge of the hood. The alignment of the hood is slightly off on one side - the gap between the body parts is closer together on one side than the other. I'm thinking I bought a half million dollar lemon.

Not that it should make too much of a difference but was this a new or pre-owned car? If brand new that is really bad and sucks. If pre-owned I would wonder if there was some history to the car?

It was a demo from the Scottsdale Ferrari dealer. It had 950 miles on it. I'm thinking the new rule should be never buy a demo!

My sf90 spider is creaky and rattly. Not sure if it’s the chassis or the insane amount of CF in the cabin.

That would drive me insane. My lowly c8 Z06 convertible feels built tight a drum compared to the F8 spider I drove last year.

It does at times. Dealer fixed some of it, but I'm hesitant to take the dash apart and create more problems. Car may settle as I get more miles on it. Or I'll have a better idea of where it's coming from. A big reason why I'm doing a 296GTB and not GTS.

I've been debating a 296GTB to GTS change.. I think you may have dissuaded me :) Creaks and rattles.. OMG no.

I have the carbon seats, the "elbow" can cause creaks. It can be fixed because mine was with (I think) grease. I get some rattles from the passenger side seat when empty on very rough roads.

I hate to dissuade you from what you want. I’d still take my sf90 spider over a coupe, but on the 296, I like the layout of the shape of the rear glass and front windshield on the coupe. If you don’t have a spider, everyone that can should have one! There are pluses and minuses.

I prefer the look of the 296 year end more on the coupe. That and my distaste for scuttle shake let me to choose the GTB.

Funnily, on something like a 812 GTS, scuttle shake wouldn't bother me. But the 296 needs to be about performance. Not compromise.

The 812 GTS seems less inclined to shake than the SF90 for some reason.

No noticeable creaks and rattles on spirited roads or track… I prefer the lines of the GTS particularly the body coloured A- pillars and the of course the enhanced sound of the engine with the top down… closed cabin also feels tight and dark on the GTB

Good to hear. My concern is that not all GTS owners have this issue - meaning there may be something wrong with those cars that do. Probably either due to the way they were used over time (wear and tear like shocks or bearings) or a production issue associated with just those vehicles - not all of them. My hope is they can find the source of the problem and correct it at the dealership. Anyone who has had similar issues that were resolved and can describe how the problem was identified and fixed would be a great help.

Zero chassis flex. I am super happy about that as I too was concerned. 296 is incredibly solid.

Our 458 Spider did have flex that was noticeable. The rear view mirror would shake...

Tapping on windscreen is probably the AC Actuator valve - it can be a s/w update to fix it - its basically a configuration issue where the valve is clicking and makes a sound as though its the windscreen tap. I had it on my GTB and was fixed within a day. The other issues - sorry to hear...
