Pironi did nothing worse than not respecting team orders at Imola. Big freaking deal !!! When you see that Vettel and others did exactly the same since, and collected titles !!!
If one cannot pass wealth and privileges to one's children, what is the point of acquiring them then ?
Villeneuve was naive when he trusted Pironi at Imola and the overreacted like a child with the "war with Peroni", which ultimately cost him his life. As you said, what Pironi did is par for the course today.
I have never heard Laurence Stroll saying he was in F1 for his son to be world champion. Another scoop from the media ? Any quote perhaps, to put that myth to bed, once and for all.
I didn't move the goal post as others knew what I was referring to. Those "others" knew exactly what I was referring to and I commend them for it.
Pironi was an ass. Some may have liked him, I did not. I knew him very well, and if you like asses, fine. So be it. Villeneuve's death IS on his conscience, but who cares, it is, and was only racing, and the dreaded team orders. Gentlemen? Not many more of those left in F1. Just a bunch of spoiled uncouth brats (not all, clearly) but a long list. Regards, Alberto.
Well, that's your opinion. OK with me. At Imola Ferrari's team orders were very fuzzy and subject to interpretation, to say the least. Without opposition, Ferrari was supposed to put up a "show", in the absence of several teams. Villeneuve totally over reacted to Pironi's cheeky move, and went in a sombre mood. . Being senior in the team, perhaps he considered that the Frenchman owed him some respect. It didn't happen, and instead of swallowing his pride, he made it a question of honour, and paid with his life. I don't think Pironi was responsible in any way for Villeneuve's death. It was a silly display of bravado that turned sour.
I respect your opinion also ... Villeneuve lost all composure, and, it was an accident clearly, yet clearly an unneeded provocation by an ass, that only killed a person indirectly. Stuff happens, righto? Regards, Alberto
To show your children how to do it themselves. If my children's aspirations are not to outdo what I have done on their own, I've failed as a parent. The worst thing you can do for your kids is give them wealth and privilege instead of giving them the ability to acquire it themselves. That statement above is everything wrong with the world imo, and the Stroll's are a perfect representation of it. Spoiled rotten brat of a kid because he's never had to earn anything and is found out when his dad can no longer stack the deck in his favor.
What do you expect the rich to do ? Give it all to charities to teach their children a lesson ? It doesn't happen.
Some people forget that an F1 car is a SINGLE SEATER. At the end of the day Stroll is all by himself in the car without dads money to turn the wheel or press the pedals. Sure the door was opened for him by privilege but he put in the work to get to F1 and earned a spot where dozens of other billionaires trying the same for their kids failed. I've been around racing all my life and have personally been overtaken and chosen over people with more money and I don't sweat it one bit. It is part of the game and if you don't like it go do something else. Nobody is curing cancer here it is people of varying levels of extraordinary wealth driving around in circles. Some perspective is in order.
Those other Billionaires kids, if your referring to Mazepin and Latifi, fathers didn't own an F1 team hence their(kids) failure. Had those Billionares owned F1 teams, then those sons would still be driving in F1 on the same team financed by their dads which is why Stroll is still driving in F1.
Play the game like the Rothschilds. Each generation teaching the next how to use, and acquire without depleting the base. Most families that acquired great wealth blow it by the 3rd generation--witness the recent fall of the Vanderbilts. Bill Gates does not want his children to start out with more than a few hundred million, ...
Shaquille O'neal's kids went up to him and said, "Daddy we're rich!!" and O'Neal responded, "I'm rich!!.....you kids have to work for your own money!" "If you want me to invest MY money into your business, should you open one up, send me a prospectus and I will look into it." This kind of mindset though is far and few in between.
Not all the descendants of extremely rich people are interested in wealth, and the lifestyle that goes with it. I met a few who took distance from their family to live a happy life in total simplicity, doing an ordinary job.
Teach their kids how to make their own fortune and then let them go do it. We're not talking about Stroll leaving his kid money, that's not what he's doing.
That's perfectly fine, what I have issue with is just buying your kid's way to the front of the line and then putting in their head that they earned it.
