Which is fully understandable and exactly the reason publishers should be reluctant in announcing dates for new titles.
Of course their business is selling books which clashes with all explained above, but as a reader my interest is more on quality / content than on (meeting the announced) publishing date.

You are an all too rare exception and much appreciated. many authors write a book below the radar; unannouced, to not be hassled by "When is it out?" questions every five minutes:rolleyes:; "When it's ready."

That is exactly the way to do it...
But I noticed this can easily lead to endless researching and editing.

I’m going to stop paying attention. Announced publication dates seem to mean nothing to certain publishers. When it’s out, it’s out. If I’m still interested I’ll buy it, if not….

Yes some people are not capable of stopping, they keep splitting hairs..there comes a point when you have to let go, finalize it and print.

From my own experience: there is no such thing as 100% perfection. No matter how hard you try to eliminate all errors and discrepancies in a manuscript, you find an error minutes after the printing has started. It could be something like Murphy's law

Exactly and some people are too OCD to let go. An author has to accept that a book 's obsolescence starts gradually, ever so slowly, the second you sign off at the printer's.

The Brenda Vernor book is now available from McKlein. I was willing to take a flier for €20…..but then I saw the shipping charge: about €50. Now, I realize that international shipping costs have become absurd, but there has to be a big upcharge in there. Hard pass.

Did you ask Autobooks in Burbank if they will carry it or ask the publisher if they have a US distributor?

I knew you would appreciate this. It looks like David Bull Publishing is back in full force with some great titles.

Congratulations to the Bull team for finally getting it done.

Meanwhile at Porter, radio silence on the Nye/Chinetti version.

Against my better judgement I took the plunge and pre-ordered. I don't like the idea of a publisher having my money for an unknown amount of time (regardless of what date available they might indicate) but FOMO got the better of me. I have several Bull titles and they are all very well done so fingers crossed... I will probably buy Porter's too if and when. Chinetti's is one of the main origin stories of the Ferrari legend and there is a huge gap that these books will hopefully start to fill.

I’m not too worried about FOMO for this book. Bull isn’t promoting it as a limited edition so there should be plenty of availability. I guess the one thing you’re buying is some hedging against a price increase but even that seems a minor concern at this price level. I inquired over a week ago about possible special editions of the book but have not received a reply.
