I pulled all the console stuff out tonight. Looks pretty nasty Lots of debris stuck to the goo. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Did the HVAC panel tonight. I pulled the old sticker off with some small needlenose easily. The rest all came off with some 91% isopropyl alcohol. I used what I call my slip solution to install the sticker (water with a couple drops of baby shampoo in a small sprayer). I cleaned the knobs off with the alcohol also and they took a bit of rubbing to get clean. I did not paint them with anything. It is not necessary and why put a coating on a high use knob if you don't need to. Try not to rub too much on the little white line and you won't hurt it. My two buttons were not really sticky. I carefully and lightly cleaned them with 70% isoproply alcohol, just to get the crud off of them. You don't want to mess these up. Couple more pics. I will post a picture of the console and the radio section when I get them put back together. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Console done and center gauge bezel installed. Ignore the crooked mirror switch, I had to secure it better. The back tabs slipped out when I pressed on it (before I took the picture). It's secure and strong as can be now Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Older thread that I wanted to bump: I took my ashtray out to fix a broken spring, and I managed to put a nice scratch in the lid and surrounding plastic. After spending much too much on 6 different cans of paint, I have to agree with JEVS and recommend SEM Honda Black Bumper Coater. Near perfect color and sheen. The others were either too shiny, or too deep or dark with black. (I also painted the mirror switch surround to match the finish of the ashtray) Image Unavailable, Please Login
It has been pointed out to me that this is NOT an exact match for factory OEM parts; so if you are looking for perfection, trust the professionals. Even if not concours correct, it looks nice to me. Caveat emptor.
So is there a consensus in 2024 on SEM vs Plasti-Dip? The fact that Plasti-Dip exists in both black and clear finish seems convenient.
I used Krylon Industral, 1613 semi-flat black and then clear coat with Rustoleum Matte Clear it's pretty close to the original plus the clear give good protection. Image Unavailable, Please Login
My understanding is that the closest match to the original color would be the SEM Trim Black with reference number 39143. Is this correct? And what would you use as a clear coat when black paint is not an option (eg. on buttons)? I'm hearing VHT Flame Proof Clear Satin? Thoughts on this one?
