I am in the process of purchasing a Ferrari 355 from a Ferrari dealer. The dealer is being a bit cagey about doing a PPI. The salesman has said that they have done the major service and provided the paperwork as well as engine mounts and fix power spyder top. In my mind Ferrari dealers should be use to working with independent Ferrari workshops to do PPIs - assuming its common. But salesman is saying they have done any and all work needed, how will they get the car to the technician etc. It is just making me have a bad taste in my mouth. I am assuming I need the PPI still even though they have gone over the car on intake and done what seems to be reasonable work on it. Please advise, thank you in advance!

Unless the car was a must-have spec, I’d walk.

If you can afford to toss away most of the value of the car: then proceed.

Otherwise, insist on having someone other than the dealer do the inspection.

Perhaps I read a bit too fast. Ferrari dealer did the work. Are they offering any warranty?

Great -- ask them to put that in writing as a warranty.

    walk away.

sounds like they are hiding something

unless as above they are so happy with their work and the car they will put a warranty on it.

Ferrari dealers are going to hold their nose up high because they want to be viewed as the gold standard. They’re not going to be ok with some misc mechanic checking their work. Ask for a warranty or something.

I would specifically ask them for the compression and leak down test results. Since they did everything.

Odd you should mention that - the service manager told me yesterday they did the compression test on intake; I asked for the printout of the results and how it was done, e.g. what temperature and rpm etc. I am still waiting for it.

Compression and leakdown tests can't be done on only the intake. They test valve and ring sealing of the entire cylinder.

Apologies - By intake I meant the service manager said they did compression testing they received the car as part of their inspection and service work in order to put it on sale. I will follow up again today to ask for the paper work/results on the compression testing
