I've had my 1995 355 Berlinetta since March and have driven it almost daily, including ~60 laps on the track. The car is amazing but like any 30 year old car it has a few things that need addressed.

    I am taking the car into H&S Motorsport in Houston on Monday to have the following done. Point of this thread is to see if there is anything else I might have H&S address, look at, take care of while they have the car (likely for at least a month). Here are the items thus far;

    - Install custom F40 seats
    - Install Capristo Bypass Valve
    - Install airbag resistor kit on my 348 steering wheel to remove airbag light
    - Install steering wheel column extension
    - Install rear suspension forks
    - Install FHP springs
    - Have the e-brake repaired
    - Have the buzz/rattle of the shifter checked out (mostly in 3rd gear, any thoughts here?)
    - Have the brake squeal looked into
    - Have the sticky throttle looked into

I've read up on the sticky throttle issue in here and it seems it can be a rabbit hole and very costly and still sometimes not fixed. Any feedback here? I want to avoid spending thousands chasing this fix if it's not something obvious.

Any other items worth looking into while they have the car for awhile? I am not due for an engine out for another couple of years.

    Thanks all

As for the throttle, there was an updated part the cable attaches to (quadrant?) I cut mine apart and re-welded it to the updated geometry. Also the heim joints on mine were seizing and quadrant bearings dry so those were replaced as well.

I fixed my stick throttle by removing the bell crank, cleaning the crusty needle bearing, and re-lubricating with grease.

I found my throttle cable frayed. Medium difficulty replacing it (DIY)

Check your engine mounts and gear lever bushing.

What is wrong with it? I recently bought a new ratchet assembly for my car just in case I had issues in the future. The teeth have been known to wear.

Well....light track prep would be a regular brake fluid flush, track oriented alignment, corner balance, ride height adjustment. A track oriented brake pad will squeal. Most do not replace rotors with pads. Most don't turn rotors to ensure flat surfaces. Those compromises make for more squeal even with street pads. Using a worn rotor does not reduce braking efficiency unless towards wear limits and grooved. It's find to save money reusing rotors but you get more squeal but not always. Sometimes you can treat a pad backing plate and stop the squeal.

Other fluids need regular removal and replacement especially if tracking. Differential/trans and coolant too. Know what coolant type you are using so you do not mix types. Mixing can result in precipitates that clog radiators.

It doesn't hold the car. If I crank it all the way up and I'm on a mostly flat surface it will hold the car but any kind of incline/decline it does not have the strength to hold the car

I have several cars that I track on a more regular basis, I will track the 355 maybe once a year. I understand more aggressive track pads can/will squeal. I do not plan to run those throughout the year, and may just swap to track oriented pads before next session.

This first track experience was a private rental and I did not expect to do more than 10 laps nor push the car much, so I left the car "as-is" for a baseline run/feel. I wrote a review at how shocked I was at how well the car handled the circuit and ended up pushing the car quite hard and for a ton of laps, it was too much fun to stop. No issues resulted from the track day, everything listed in my original post was there prior to the track.

Good call on the fluids, alignment, etc. I will look to have those done as well.

    To the 95 355, I would add:

    • Checking the subframe for cracks.

Do a compression test. In my experience these cars tend to run fine and not use a ton of oil even with leaky valve guides. The problem is that if you let them go like that for a long time you end up with big problems.

I had a compression test done during the pre buy inspection (February 2024) and everything looked good.
