I can't understand where all this negativity is coming from. Brands can't keep doing the same thing over and over again.
A lot of the people voicing their dislike for the new design direction Ferrari took with the 12Cilindri appear to be in their late 40s or 50s (perhaps a little bit set in their ways) ... I get it, it's not the design you got used to associating with Ferrari these last couple of decades BUT they need to move on and and they need to introduce a new direction ... and I am sure once we are a couple of generations in and Ferrari introduces something new again we will be having the same conversations with a bunch of new people who will not like that design versus this one ....

It happened to me when Ferrari introduced the FF, I was super vocal that it was a crap design and refused to order one.
I bought a used one 2 years later and loved it and bought a Lusso as soon as I could place an order for one. By the time the Lusso came out none of the people complaining about the FF had anything negative to say anymore. The accepted the design and loved it.
Same thing will happen now. Mark my words :)

12 Cilindri will become familiar and loved as all Ferrari V12s inevitably are more or less. It is a classic Ferrari design with some new thinking. Not sure I get the spaceship thing but let’s just say that it’s a classic theme (very classic ferrari lines on this car) with a futuristic twist. And why shouldn’t a designer draw inspiration from something that inspires him?

Porsche does the same thing over and over again for decades with subtle changes to the design and constantly improving the drivetrain, chassis and interior. Take any of their cars from any era and except for the 928 and 944 cars they are instantly recognizable as Porsche. They have honed the 911 and derivatives to a fine edge- and I’m not a Porsche fan. Ferrari could do the same but they chose a different path- new, sometimes jarring designs that challenge your thoughts as to what a Ferrari should look like. This has been hit and miss. The F12/812 was a double with a couple of RBIs for the GTS. The Pista/F8 was a triple based on the PF 458, itself a double(I would have ranked it a triple if not for the mustache). The SF90 was a single but the 296 a double. LaF was a home run and the SP3 was an RBI. The 12C is a base on balls with no RBIs. It may become a classic but I would bet against it unless it outperforms the 812 by a significant margin which is unlikely.

I LOVE this baseball hit metaphor! A also agree with every single one of your ratings ( with the slight exception of the SP3 which I would categorize as a home run )

Let’s hope Ferrari steps up their game and moves away from these neutered Jaguaresque designs for their regular production cars. They can’t continue to only build inspiring products for 499 people.

They need to allow full body paint option including the black part between the headlights atleast in spider version.. The 12 c spider does not have the roof "element".. So it will look ok without black parts...

Time will tell. As the shock wears off, I'm sure the car will gain acceptance. But I expect it will always be divisive and less universally loved than the typical Ferrari. It's certainly not growing on me.

Seen the car in the flesh 4 separate occasions, just keeps getting worse to my eyes, can’t believe from my first view in April when I posted it was stunning it’s gone off so bad, that’s a first for me with a Ferrari..it’s Fugazi

I agree the SP3 would be a home run if it were not for the fact it is a restyled (and a bit over the top with that Millennium Falcon rear end IMHO) LaF without the hybrid arrangement. Sadly it is almost as heavy as LaF otherwise it would have had nearly the same performance envelope.
To my eyes the last grand slam designs were the 275GTB,the 308 and derivatives, and the 512BB(showing my age here)
Perhaps we should start a thread: vote the baseball all stars of the Ferrari world- rating strike out to grand slam.
    Might be interesting

Rather than Millennium Falcon, it’s clear the rear end is inspired by the P5 Pininfarina Prototype. We are all entitled to our own reactions, in my case, I originally found this element a little challenging, but as I saw these cars more and more, I fell in love with it.

I would have ranked the 458 much higher because it’s so clean, and the F8, while a handsome car, to me it is a mush of the prior design language and what is coming now.

That is what’s great about this website- everyone can have an opinion and all are valid!
As for the SP3- yes based on the P5- but its rear is as wide as the M Falcon!

Agreed, that’s the beauty of choice and opinions :) designs are meant to spark discussion. I haven’t seen the 12 Cilindri in the flesh yet but I do like the pictures I’m seeing of the car in non red specs. White and Blu Corsa I like with the wheels from the spider. Now the SP3 I love everything about that car including the backend :)

The more I see the SP3 the more I like
As for the 12C I like the spider and would prefer it in a darker grey like CdF and possibly Nero

That "Aston" is based on a legend Pininfarina design so it's more Ferrari than the 12Cilindri could ever be LOL

The 550 is a real pininfarina design from a time when Ferrari artisans made things they were proud of, unlike the massive company it’s become today that doesn’t care what it makes anymore

Never really liked the 550 design. It’s become a little easier over time but it always looked ill proportioned compared with an F12 or 812. Overly long front overhang, short wheelbase/long nose look. Wasn’t very muscular or very feline. Doesn’t have great stance with no muscle in the arches and wheels not at the corner and the glasshouse looks odd. After the Testarossa it was very very understated, the complete opposite. Just never did it for me. Not elegant and classy IMO but obviously everyone sees differently and let’s face it, it has a Ferrari V12 and that has to be good.

It’s remarkable how much tastes differ among even diehard Ferrari enthusiasts. I absolutely love the 550 / 575. More and more with each new Ferrari that’s released.

I agree that the black section is an awful styling gimmick--the solution is to wrap it in the base color or buy a black one.

Saw the car in London recently. Coupe version. Two things struck me, firstly it looks very Japanese, secondly, it’s absolutely enormous. Just a whale of a car. Shame. Wasted opportunity.
