As long as he keeps it under 3000 ft, it shouldn't be a problem, air density 'n all....

(but I figure some A&P's would strongly disagree)

There are STC's allownig MOGAS or regular unleaded on many engines, mostly lower compression and HP. Not sure of altitude restrictions, but I thought they could go well above 3k.

edit: there are a few STC's for adding electronic ignition (removing the magnetos) the vastly improve the performance using unleaded fuels.

How the heck does anyone get a plane into that position without an accompanying explosion?

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Andrew- In the olden days jet fuel was gasoline-based (JP4 in the US military), which was pretty flammable. Newer jet fuels are kerosene-based (JP8 or Jet-A) and much less flammable. Makes the engines a little harder to start, especially airstart, but is also denser so more goes into each tank (32,500 lbs JP4 filled tanks but took 34,200 lbs of JP8 to fill the same tanks). I assume this one used kerosene-based jet fuel.

JP-4 was actually based on a 50/50 blend of gasoline and kerosene that was more volatile than either one of them. It was used in commercial airliners in Puerto Rico because of the extensive military presence on the island, which made it easier to locate. After Pan Am flight 214 crashed in Maryland after a lightning strike exploded JP-4 vapors in the left outboard wing tank, its use in commercial aircraft was banned by the FAA. Eventually the military followed suit and switched to JP-8.

Fortunately, his empty head offered minimal wind resistance and he was anchored to the plane by his enormous balls... :^)

Snake-eye, replaced by the AIR (air inflatable retard) system. AIR Mk-84s could be delivered supersonic, snake-eyes could not. Tested quite a few of those supersonic at 200' AGL at Eglin AFB with the F-111F and F-111D.
