here they are... very, very rough estimates... It was not easy then, not as easy as today when you can scan the option plate's QR-code to get the production date. One always have to keep in mind that model digits A, E, L and T have model year digits (B, C, D, J and S don't have it, except some "trials" and the new 12cilindri) so, what follows now is just heavy narrowing:

My understanding is Japan first received 355’s a lil later than the U.S, so although some of their 95’s have pre-airbag, dual pumps… none of them were earlier enough to receive a single-piece center undertray (July 94) or possible early engine (late oct 94). Would this assumption be accurate?

    1st column - “chassis”
    2nd column - “engine management”
    3rd column - “airbag”

“PA” chassis is often used (shown in VIN) to denote pre-airbag cars.

Japan has far fewer GTS’ than the U.S, but this chart seems to indicate they received GTS’ as early a Berlinettas, whereas in the U.S, first GTS (101154) is…maybe a Dec 94/Jan 95 build.

Super early GTS’ in Japan and Europe should have the single-piece undertray.

What VIN did EU switch from PA (Pre-airbag) to PR? I’m trying to gauge a date for the switchover in EU. Possibly July 95.

    *Made a huge mistake here.

I counted 6 pages of 47 cars listed, when there are only 5. Last page has 34 cars, so it should be (47 cars) x (5) + 34 cars. Only 269 cars (not 316) listed on North American dual pump VIN list.

23- CDN Berlinettas (No Spiders or GTS’)

    19- GTS’ (USA)

    17- Spiders (USA)

    269 - 59 = 210 dual pump U.S Berlinettas.

*N/A VIN list has 269 cars. 36 of them are non-Berlinettas, which leaves 233 cars. So if there are 336 95 N/A manual B’s, this implies there’s only roughly 103 single pump 95 N/A Berlinettas.

103 single pump cars built between June 95 - Dec 95. Sounds more reasonable :).

Here’s my list of 355 challenge/race cars with dual fuel pumps + North American VINs:

*When looking at a North American VIN, the 8th digit represents the region and the 10th digit represents the designated model year.

    A= North America

    S = 1995 Model year.

    Ex. ZFFPR41A1S0098673

Cars with production dates in 94 and 95 will have “S” as the 10th digit. Where it gets tricky is 96 (production dates in 96) challenge cars also have “S” in their VIN to designate a “1995” model year.

If @Matthias Urban is counting N/A 1995 (or 2.7) Berlinettas based on VINs which have an “S” designation, we need to keep track of 96 challenge cars to filter them out and arrive at a solid 95 non-challenge Berlinetta number.

    098673 - FNA owned
098674 - FNA owned. written off
    100330 - Barry’s car. @308 GTB
    100385 - relocated to AUS.
100433 - Not a challenge car. Berlinetta turned into full blown race car.
    100537 - CDN
    100608 - @mclaudio
    100704 - Rosso Barchetta/Nero Challenge.
    100804- Silver/Nero. @SoCal1
    101443 - @pj911
    102457 - White/White. @SoCal1
102458 - *Last car on N/A dual pump VIN list.

If there are more than this, please let me know. If there are more, I doubt it is many.

    ( 210 U.S spec dual pump Berlinettas ) - (10 U.S spec dual pump challenge cars) = 200 U.S Spec dual pump Berlinettas.

ch stand for Switzerland, swe stands for Sweden, both have been represented by "S" as the Country-digit in the VIN. However, even with the "S"-range, cars show different details to differenciate between Switzerland and Sweden. Don't ask me which, please , I learned that from the friends with whom I exchange data about the 328 series and they see the differences with that model at first glance - but you have to know their location. "S" was used from 1980 to 1995. That explains why the 6 Berlinettas listed as "S"-models are the last ones in the breakdown.

Implying… no North American designated 355 should have “PA” in its VIN.

Recap regarding Pre-airbag to airbag (PA to PR) transition by region:

North America - was always PR.
    Japan - Oct 94
    EU - Feb/March 95
    UK/AUS - Aug 95

*RHD cars appear to be last to make the switch.
