Rationally that would be the correct and easy answer but I enjoy my cars as close to OEM+ as possible. Same reason I spent months tracking down the last new FHP spring set for the 456....

another example where u could have likely bought it cheaper off ebay

seems like u can buy 2004-2012 range rovers off the street for free and people pay nuts on BAT

    Hello,

I am the one who won the auction on the 575m.

I circled back on the BaT auction and saw some comments saying to check in here, so here I am!

Happy to answer any questions or provide any commentary, but got the short is I got very lucky on timing and have been enjoying the car a ton since purchase.

2002 Ferrari 575M Maranello for sale on BaT Auctions - ending September 11 (Lot #162,329) | Bring a Trailer

    this listing is a mess.

BAT says ODO was reset in 2017. The invoices show it was done in 2013.

Look at the invoices. This car had a lot of issues - most from letting it sit and not driving it! People need to realize that undriven supercars don't do well from a maintenance standpoint. I don't get why people pay so much for them, unless putting them on a shelf to look at and never drive!

THAT is the car you buy to convert. But I bet it goes RNM as there are way too many questions and not enough answers (at least yet)

I wouldn’t 6MT convert this one….with the odometer it’s tainted….convert to Racecar and piece out the interior…..throw on Fabio’s exhaust with Trevs tune and beat it like it owes you money…..I’m going to dream of this tonight…..;-)

lol. I have owned a lot of racecars and raced even more. There are about 100+ cars I would rather race than a 550!

The conversion could overcome the taint of the ODO. And you would have no regrets making that car less than original as it is already jacked from the history and lack of proper care/use.

This maybe the one I do - but I really don't want a silver one! lol

As I re read that posting…

so much deferred maintenance and stickies and the odometer….this in theory should set or at best match a current low record at $80k?

in the SteveVT and Dhalperin “era” of deals this car would have been in the 70’s.

Will be fun to watch where it lands.

Thank you for the kind words. I am located in the Midwest, and that is where the car also currently resides. Do you/members in the community see a general underappreciation for this era of automatic models? I recognize the value of any 6-speed model, but I think that the transmission is more of a unique learning curve rather than a downright dealbreaker as much media coverage tends to lean towards. Interested to hear peoples thoughts.

Welcome, I’m in the Midwest too. where about?
F1 is under-appreciated (for now) Personally I hated it at first but once you get the feel for it (and Trev’s TCU/ECU remaps), it became a pleasure in its own right.

Your car was well bought. Carbon interior and Modular’s are highly desirable options indeed. I would start by swapping the F1 relay in your car and get basic fluids/tires/etc as you learn the cars needs and quirks.

Some like/love the f1 and some hate it. It’s like religion and politics. Lots of emotion. lol

clearly the market sees a manual as significantly more desirable (oe or conversion). That may change.

doesn’t really matter what I like, only that you you like it! And if you find you don’t, convert it. You won’t lose a dollar with the conversion! Especially with the deal you got.

Brad (Otopaliks) comment is right on. The fact you scored such a great price on an F1 575 you can learn it, enjoy it and then you could always convert or heck if it’s not for you the buy in was low enough that you won’t get hurt if you want to trade out down the road.

I’ll be eager to hear more as you deepen your ownership experience.

As for your Midwest location….i grew up in central Iowa (left during my MBA in 1998) but take our daughters back to see family 1x a year.

@Aerosurfer and I have been making efforts to meet more of our forum friends in real life!

    https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/456-550-575-fellowship-irl-i-met.694727/

that effort is also a good way to get the “owner” tag to the right of your handle (if desired).

Thanks again for sharing - Eric

@mbatinovic First of all congrats and welcome! You stole one!

I have to second the F1 + tune, certainly a cheaper route than converting and I’m sure would liven up the F1 in areas where it may be a little less exciting. For me, manually shifting a 575 is such an amazing, orgasmic bliss that converting was more than worth it and I have not one iota of regret for the time and money spent…BUT, the F1 does not suck (sorry influencers, you’re wrong) and with a tune I’ll bet it can be bonkers fun. I likely would have done just that if I couldn’t have gone with the OEM conversion.

You’re right about the learning curve. It’s almost like getting a new-to-you manual car wired.

I will admit some part of me would like to have another F1 car (360, maybe even another 575 like the yellow one currently on PCAR) with Trevor’s tune.

19" wheels weren't available in 2002, so the car hasn't the Factory rims. In my opinion -I don't want to offend anyone- red an yellow look very bad on the 550-575. Looks great in blue, light blue, silver, white, black, medium green, smoke and colors like that: only my personal taste, of course.

    Ciao

I generally agree, the more subdued hues fit the personality and mission of the machine. I love yellow, though. I like yellow and red more on the 550 than the 575. Amazing how big a difference very subtle tweaks can make.

I’d have any color Maranello and definitely prize condition over appearance, though.

Alberto-Could not agree less, but then I have a red 575M and like yellow 575Ms, which I think look great. Personal taste only, of course. 19" wheels were indeed available in late 2002, around serial number 130xxx. 130055, built in September 2002, had the 19" modular wheels, and there are earlier examples.

I was originally planning on a 550 but 575s seemed such good value that I thought I had to drive one. I was expecting to be disappointed based on videos of YouTubers looking like they would be launched into the windscreen on every upchange if they weren't belted in. After a test drive I was thinking "what, this is all they're complaining about, it's fine". With some hours in the seat now I can smooth it out without thinking about it (cycling between 1st and 2nd in stop-start traffic excepted, but then that's no fun in a manual either). I kind of feel that we are all (550 or 575, F1 or manual, whatever colour) in an exclusive and discerning club.

Exactly. There are a select few car channels on YouTube that I can tolerate. Many are clickbait “tear down desirable cars to seem discerning” BS fountains.
