The first of the college football preview magazines is out - Lindy's - and they pick Georgia to return to the top, which is little surprise. The strength of the SEC is pointed out by the fact that they rate the Gators as 37th in the country, but only 12th (out of 16 now) in their own conference!
So when do we start talking college football? IMO there is Ohio State, and MAYBE Texas, and nobody else. It would not surprise me if Michigan has a losing record, they lost damned near everyone and most of the coaches. Penn State? Maybe?? Colorado will be lucky to have a winning record...
Care to explain that? If you knew me AT ALL you would know I don't give a **** about Nebraska football.
There is a 12-team playoff. I have NO doubts there will be five teams that will ALWAYS make it: Alabama Georgia Ohio State Oregon Texas (disclaimer: as long as they keep their Head Coach, and as long as the NCAA doesn't change the NIL and Transfer rules)
Based on what I saw today, Billy Napier is toast at Florida. He just never seem to adjust to the "new ways" of college football. But who would you replace him with?
Woo hoo, USC over LSU. Suck it, Paul Finebaum. Can’t wait to hear his blathering tomorrow, the SEC homer. It's even better that Brian Kelly is their coach, it’s almost as good as beating ND. Downside is that SC's defensive coordinator will be there two seasons max before someone offers him a head coaching position. SC’s receiver corps looks great, and their old/new QB followed up his bowl win with a pretty impressive stat line against a good defense (they’re in the SEC, they have to be good, don't they? Let’s ask paul tomorrow...).
I like Finebaum. I never used to, but I like how he says what is on his mind, most of it I agree with, but I can also see he is a blowhard that likes to hear himself talk. Did USC look good, or did LSU look bad? I DID see LSU was out-coached. 7 points. Would you be boasting all the USC crap if they had lost? I doubt it. Now, about Notre Dame....
Of course, we gotta crow when the sun is up. Finebaum is a SEC homer, which I understand, but he has a special hatred for Lincoln Riley that goes back to Oklahoma days. To his credit, he was gracious acknowledging SC’s defense (a surprise to the SC faithful, too…). Too early to know how good or bad either team is, although Texas looked like the best team in America today. Maybe if coaches just worked for Saban as offensive coordinators for a couple years each...
Sanders (Deion and his kid both) both show a terrible attitude as Colorado gets hammered. No starting QB should leave the field and return to the locker room because his team is getting stomped.
ND. They paid 1.4M to lose their home opener. CU hasn't actually shown that they're a good team despite Neon and the $$$. Michigan lost to a ranked team. North Carolina State had a really bad day
Deion is not a coach by any stretch of the definition. He is a manipulator of his narrative, and nothing more. He said last week he is pushing his kid and Travis Hunter both for the Heisman, he said NOTHING about THE TEAM. Think of Warren Buffett - do you think he has any idea how to RUN any of the companies he owns? Nope He lets those that do run them.
ND didn't because they will still end up in the playoffs. ESPN will make sure of it. CU didn't because they were predicted to suck. UM probably did because they suck at QB, and you can't suck at QB in the Big Ten. They needed a win to (help) make the playoffs, and now that is in doubt, based on their schedule. Cam Rising probably had the worst day, if he is hobbled next week or misses any games.
If Billy Napier is smart, he'll start D.J Lagway at QB indefinitely, even after Graham Mertz is cleared to play. He is clearly the future of Gator football (at least for 2024).
Another bad day for the Florida schools. FSU is 0-3 and UF is 1-2 but probably looking worse. I think it's time to say "Bye, bye, Billy" in Gainesville, but who do you replace him with?
I was so hoping Vandy would go 3-0. I hate the prevent defense with a passion. In other news, North Texas got smashed on nationwide TV. We always crap the bed when we get a shot at good PR.
