I’ve seen a few examples where police scanners were installed in 308s but never a Testarossa. Has anyone done it, or seen it done, and if so how was it setup? There really isn’t a lot of interior space to work with.

In my area, the state police usually only has two Troopers on duty, covering 5 counties, during the overnight hours. They frequently call out their locations. I have scanners in a couple of my other cars and they are quite useful.

    Good day Jarrod,

I am surprised that there are some Police jursidictions that use older style radio communications that can be picked up with off the shelf scanners. Around my parts, the Police now all use all digital communications that are encrypted... and so very special gear is needed to receive and decipher these transmissions.

    Cheers,

    Sam

In my underfunded state most agencies are still using VHF. A couple jurisdictions are using digital but I don’t know of a single department in my area that is encrypted.

    Good day Jarrod,

Interesting. Our local Police department pretty much gets what it wants. Our City's Police budget is the largest line item cost... works out to be about $450 per person per year (around $450M). This contributes to our massive property tax increases... about a 5 x increase in just over 10 years. A few large $ expenses... they wanted their own helicopter... and they got it... then, said they needed a 2nd one while the other one is being serviced. Then they they justified a APV (Armoured Personnel Vehicle), etc... I am all for supporting our local Police, but the costs are truly excessive and questionable. Interestingly, our "sister" City which has 30% more populations spends around 30% less on their Police Dept.

    Cheers,

    Sam

It’s funny you mention that. There is one small town in my area, probably no more than 7000 people, that has amassed a lot of serious equipment. Such as armored personnel carriers and some weird command post type thing that is on scissor jacks so it can lift up around 20’ in the air (that they usually keep in the target parking lot). This town isn’t some rich suburb, nor is it a high crime area, so they really don’t have any real use for this stuff that I can see. I would guess their police department has no more than 10 Officers.

Well... it is good if you supply Police Department equipment :) ...

Our crime rate/level has certainly increased over the years like most places, but these days our City and its various Departments pay (no pun intended) little to burden on tax payers. Very little cost/benefit analysis is done... along with little regard to spending on the basics and needed items, but seemingly no issue for things not truly needed and/or the new toys that become available.

    Cheers,

    Sam

Our City has over 1M people and so not too small or big. Unfortunately, there is minimal oversight or justification on various high $ spending. Recently the Police Dept Commission refused to provide the Audit to the City and City Councillors ! So... Public $ being spent and those overseeing and approving these expenses refuse to allow the Public to see where the Public $ are being spent? Geez. A few years ago it was leaked that a bunch of $ was spent on the armoured personnel carrier... Interesting times to say the least... and explains why I have been planning my exit strategy for a while now...500% property tax increase in over 10 years is a bit much and especially so given the relatively moderate real estate valuation increase over the same period (around 25%).

    Cheers,

    Sam
