Piastri’s comments about Stroll yesterday can’t have helped. “You had Stroll driving like it was his first go-kart race. I don’t know what went through his brain when he saw his blue flag, but that cost another second.” https://www.crash.net/f1/news/1054514/1/oscar-piastri-takes-aim-lance-stroll-driving-it-was-his-first-go-kart-race
Yes was aware lol. More proof his own grid mates are far beyond him. Lance has no further business being on the grid in comparison lol. We of course know gross wealth enables incompetence.
Boy, I think I'm going to put you guys on ignore!! The obsessive behavior from some of you is beyond comprehension.
This Planet F1 article claims Lance deserves more respect. https://www.planetf1.com/features/lance-stroll-deserves-more-respect-than-his-pay-driver-label-gets-him
IMO this says it all: "As to how much he wants to be in F1, his demeanour around the racing would suggest otherwise, and how much he is there to appease his father"
From this article, I retain 3 quotes that sum up Lance Stroll for me: "As for that career, it is one that is actually better than most people realise. " "Being the son of the team owner has made Stroll an easy target to pick on ..." "No one is saying Stroll is one of the best drivers to have ever raced in F1 but his branding as an outright failure is too harsh."
I'm looking forward to Newey building the best F1 of the grid for AM and Lance use that car to podium occasionally. Heads around here will explode.
Yeah, while his teammate wins the WDC in a landslide, sure, heads will still explode because he's still driving an f1 car despite clearly not being cut out for it.
Thats becoming an increasingly unsustainable argument if you deal with a driver who podiums. If Newey delivers, I expect something along the lines of the RB team today: #1 will win the WDC and Lance will get the occasional podium and points just like Checko
And how many people think Checko should be in that RB right now? Not many at all.... Talk about damning with faint praise: "Is he ever going to win a World Championship? Almost certainly not. Can Aston win the Constructors’ whilst he is there? I have my doubts. Does he crash more than he should? Absolutely. But of all the nepo babies in the world, Lance Stroll is more talented than most."
Stroll would not win an F1 race even if driving 'Thrust SSC'. I may assume that a brilliant mind as Newey, would have set conditions. What, ME work with Lance? Duh... Do we really think he builds a 'winning' car, and have Lance crash it / or worse ? It would certainly compromise Newey's talent, to have middle/mediocre results with Lance, and better, much more so with Alonso? How much C$ is Stroll Sr. going to put up front to see one car do great, and the other not quite. I think it is an easy answer. If my son...(not), "enjoy this awhile, but we cannot afford losing face with you and Newey. You will have a FAT bank deposit, and kind of realize your limitations." Boo Hooo. In other words, go home, and find a nice girl (with those looks) it will not be hard. And live a happy, material life. Regards, Alberto
Ever heard the names Panis or Maldonado? One way around the money ceiling for Stroll Sr. is to hand out stock options in their racing team. I'm sure Newey got lots of those as well and likely other direct financial incentives to perform. That aside Newey is a racer at heart (just read his autobiography) and wants to build a winning car. He doesn't think twice about who is sitting in the 2nd seat as long as the other guy brings home the bacon. Try again. PS: Ferrari made a serious mistake not grabbing Newey. AM might be his last employer and Ferrari missed out on that chance. Porca miseria.
The bottom line is that, apart from the financial incentive, Lawrence Stroll offered more to Newey than Ferrari. Newey will be allowed to shape the technical team to his taste, be part of the decision process, and become a shareholder. At Ferrari, he would simply have been put in a pigeon hole.
As I said many times before, the recent McL rise demonstrates clearly how a team can produce a winning car a superior car even without the allmighty Newey. Ferrari absolutely got lucky ( we call it a Blessing in Disguise here in Texas) for not getting Newey. There are many talented "Neweys" out there and Ferrari just saved $100 million. Have you thougth about the possibility that the 2026 AM not being great? Daddy is not gonna be happy!
If there was ever a time for someone to change and refocus the Scuderia, Newey was it. He would of brought depts together to synergize the communication and end product. Oh well, business as usual for Ferrari. They lost out BIG TIME imo.
There is no guarantee Newey would have gone to Ferrari, even if they gave the same offer. He refused Ferrari because he didn't want to move to Italy before. He isn't a young buck anymore. I'm sure he has a lot of roots in England that he wouldn't want to leave. AMR checks all the boxes for Newey. For him it is a good move.
To me that's another issue in its entirety. First you have Ferrari pride because "no one is bigger than Ferrari" hence why they didn't hire Newey because of how he would have changed their F1 organization. Secondly, and this is where I don't think Ferrari F1 will move to the U.K. as they did with Barnard, is that Ferrari F1 cars HAVE TO BE MADE IN Maranello. This Scuderia organization can be stubborn and thick headed. (Italian Ferrari culture at its finest)
