Owners that owned a 458 and 488

I’ve had both and I really enjoyed my 488s more so than the 458s. The jump in power was worth the price difference some years ago. I miss the glorious sound of my 488s as compared to my F8s. I had no problem mechanically speaking with the 458 and the 488. I owned both for approximately 3 years each and traded both at approximately 14k miles . If I were buying one it would definitely be the 488 as it’s newer , faster and better looking IMHO. Best , Kirk.

 

Build quality/"solid" feeling 488 > 458
Sound at lower revs 488 > 458
Sound at higher revs 458 > 488
Playfulness of the chassis & engine 458 > 488
Outright white knuckle speed 488 > 458
Looks 458 > 488
Availability of nice specs, varied colors, desired options 488 > 458

488 still feels modern to me on the inside (like the displays), things you touch and feel, 458 feels more vintage delicate and dated

I've owned the 458 for almost 6 years and 9,000 miles and loved every minute of it! and now have the 488 for about 9 months and 1,200 miles.
I loved them both, but everything is better with the 488, except the exhaust sound at higher revs.
It has better electronics, better fit and finish, better sound system, better chassis, better suspension, better steering, better brakes, better looks (to me). and the list goes on....
So overall, I have to say that I prefer the 488. You can't go wrong with either one.

 

This sums it up nicely. I’ve owned both, and there’s not a wrong answer here. Looks are subjective for the owner/buyer, but this part of the statement…

held true for me as well.

 

458's being at a current value peak make the 488 a bargain right now. Not an owner or former owner, but having spent wheel time in both, the 488 is quite the step up in performance and fit/finish. Fwiw, I really wanted a 458 until experiencing a 488, and it will be my next car.

 

Have you tried driving both? The arguments for one over the other go back and for ad nauseum. Best way to tell in my opinion is get behind the wheel of both and buy the one that is the most fun to drive.

In the market for a 458 currently and would love to look at a 488 instead as they're around the same price and definitely has many upsides over a 458 but I just can't get over that turbo for multiple reasons....

Yeah he brings this up in every thread and turns it into a 458 v 488 debate ever time. I did not weigh in because OP wanted to hear from owners who drove both and get their feedback. Not slog through the tired old 458 v. 488 debate/argument.

 

How can I make it right between the two of us?
