Yep. He's crashed before only to have it refurbished. Still goes up in value though.

Most classic cars used in Historic Racing are certified replicas. The originals are collectors pieces worth several $millions.
Owners of period cars can have their acurately replicated to obtain the Historic Technical Passport from the FIA .
The inspection is rigourous though, and the copies cost often close to $1M.

    Newey's GT40 is a 1965 Mk 1 chassis # 1010.

So it's original and not a copy or replica.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has hinted that the team may need to take a page out of McLaren's design book to address the balance issues plaguing its RB20 car.

After dominating the early part of the 2024 Formula 1 season, Red Bull has struggled to maintain its performance, going winless in the last six races.

In the interim, the Milton Keynes-based outfit’s three main rivals - McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes - have all claimed victories, with team papaya now breathing down the bulls’ neck in the Constructors’ championship, sitting just eight points behind, while Ferrari also remains a threat, trailing Red Bull by only 39 points.

Balance issues are at the center of Red Bull’s concerns, particularly when it comes to the RB20’s behaviour on corner entry.

Really? You should have already had something in production lol. I would hope they did.

Horner: FIA decision on McLaren, Mercedes wings will 'encourage' Red Bull to follow suit
The FIA's clearance of the McLaren and Mercedes front wings - after clarification was sought over their flexibility - will "encourage" Red Bull to follow a similar route, says Christian Horner.

there have been 3 very big shunts of Newey GT40s, two by him and one by Kenny Brack

if he's racing an original I think there's not much "original" left on it

When Max said the car was reacting off the rear axle I had a feeling his RedBull was bouncing.

    So it appears --

Verstappen rues bouncing Red Bull that derailed Azerbaijan qualifying
Verstappen says his car's set-up took a turn for the worse heading into Baku qualifying

"As soon as I went out in Q1, I just felt the car took a step back," Verstappen explained. "We made some changes and the car just became incredibly unpredictable and difficult.

"That caused a lot of bouncing in the back of the car when turning in and out of a corner. In Q2 it still went relatively well, but the car did not feel good and I couldn't get the maximum out of it. I had too much oversteer, and you don't want that on a street circuit."

Anyone who has been near racing cars knows they are constantly dismanted, overhauled and rebuilt, often with new parts during their working life.
So the notion of finding a 1965 one that kept competing all these years as "original" is a fallacy.

A bit like the hammer that had different heads and several handles, but is claimed to be original by its owner.

All the owners can claim is some continuity attached to the chassis number.

    For the first time I think Perez legitimately out qualified Verstappen. It makes me wonder a few things;

I believe it was Helmut Marko that said they would develop the car to suit Perez more. Did this actually happened? Verstappen has been unhappy with the car for quite a while now, and in that same time Perez seems to be much happier.

Did the Red Bull have the asymmetrical braking system on the car and now that it's gone Max doesn't have a car to turn into the slow speeds like he wants? It is exceptionally unlikely, but did Max have it on his car and Perez not? Again, very unlikely.

I do know Perez is not bad around Baku and surely his confidence was up this weekend, but in a straight fight Max has still always been better around this track. The whole "Street circuit King" or "Baku Specialist" is nonsense. Just media propaganda.

    You should be banned sir!

Well their performance went from dominating to nearly mid pack. Something happened.

    Charles is the Baku Specialist.

Losing the constructors was inevitable already, this was clear 4-5 races ago. Mclaren has the best car with 2 excellent drivers. WDC is the one they're focusing on.

Wouldn't expect anything in singapore but they have to get back on the pace by Austin. Max can afford to lose 5 or so points a race to Norris but they very quickly will enter a ''what if'' scenario: A single DNF (for either Max or Norris) will essentially end one or the others' championship ambitions.

Funny story, just a month or so ago we had a small car gathering in our neighborhood and lo and behold I ran into a very modest man who may have restored more GT40s than anyone, Robert Ash. It was amazing. You never know what kind of car guy you just might run into.

Too late. They were caught cheating and now Max's car is impossible to fix. It only worked well when it had those illegal parts.
Will will probably still win the WDC though. Ferrari is getting stronger and might get some wins.

    Cheating?? Thats baddd.
Its very strange...since announcement of Adrian RB fell off a cliff (literately!!! never seen any F1 team failing that badly)

Looking forward to Ferrari winning Construction :)

Don't bother reading what he wrote. That's all in his head.

Mclaren had an enormous upgrade which brought their car massively forward. RB had a new concept and been lost in chasing it. Ferrari/Merc both upgraded their cars too but their cars are very track/setup sensitive.

How is it all in his head? Did he just happen to be in the shower one day and thought their are illegal braking parts on Rebull? Surely not. F1 released the ban, so that's where the information initiated. Not in a random fans head.
