My understanding of French is limited, but as far as I can tell he does not claim he owned any. The picture with caption mentioning a California Spider shows the interior of his Daimler SP250 Dart.

According to my notes the Paris Match photo was taken in Montlhéry when Jean-Paul Belmondo was visiting Paris Salon, so he is probably driving a relatively fresh test drive car provided by FBA (Franco Britannic Autos). Photos from test drive events arranged for journalists visiting the motor show are very rare, but I think it is a little peculiar that very few photos from this occasion have come up over the years. Would love to find out the exact plate on the car, can only read "75" for Paris in that photo.

The cover of Paris Match seems to say Belmondo is doing 200 km/h in his Ferrari. He definitely is not (doing 200 km/h) so I would think that "his Ferrari" might not be accurate either.

FWIW 1537 GT, the 1959 Paris Motor Show car, was stolen in Paris, France, in 2003, together with 3473 GT.

    You were saying?

    October 1962 issue, I own a copy.

Also I don't agree that photo was taken at Monthlery, I have raced there (Formula Ford, 1988) and walked the entire course used for races in the final years as well as the full road course which borders a military base. That photo was taken on a road away from any trees: Monthlery is surrounded by forest, and who is to say he is not at 200? In the interview referenced he explains that he drove very fast routinely as was the case with many in France back then. Even until the 80's that was the case, ask me how I know;-)

Brand new car, a demonstrator, tested by Jean-Paul Belmondo during an auto show. Go figure.

Great ad - I have three or four original copies of it, each is a little different in size. The car to the left of the Barchetta, #165, is the Ernie McAfee Siata 208S Spyder, raced in the 1953 Carrera Panamrericana road race, DNF. Entered by William Doheny. And, of course the car behind the Ferrari is a Jaguar XK120.

Wonderful Pictures! I have some sad news to announce, which is that my brother Mark, recently left us. I am collecting as many pictures and stories of Mark's cars, and Mr. Massini has been already hugely helpful. Please send to [email protected]

    Many thanks,

    Matthew

Found this on facebook, unattributed. On the Boulevard des Moulins at Carrefour de la Madone on the way to the Sangiorgio Garage Fiat dealership. Both cars and drivers, Monaco 1967.

Didn't you you mean to ask if it was 4963GT? 4663GT is a 250 GTE 2+2.

That first driver is not Bandini. I believe these are mechanics, typically the drivers would not drive the cars from the pits to city garages in those pre-paddock days.

Reminds me of the mechanics driving the cars from Sebring out to the track….a “far piece” from Monte Carlo!

    Don't think so at all.

Remember back in those days there was NO paddock in Monaco.

Instead teams rented space in local road car garages.

After sessions drivers would debrief with the their teams while mechanics drove the cars back to those garages.
