Market Prices 575 Manual vs 575 F1 (conversion costs) vs 550?

TOTALLY. My 993 is cable and to be honest throttle response on the 575 is every bit as direct and the 993 has a LWF. My 348 was almost a little TOO on/off, which is ok because that car was damn near a challenge car. 575 post-Trev is beautiful.

I’d also submit my Turbo is almost indistinguishable from a cable. Reb matches beautifully.

 

The main thing is to drive these cars and enjoy them, and let people see how beautiful they are and at the same time remind them about how ugly many modrn cars are……

456, 550 and 575M cars are not just about a fast car, but about rarity, elegance, refinement, class and sober styling. And more! And subsequently, its owner. No need to drive like a maniac. You just have the best looking GT and that is all you need. +ultra reliable aswell. I passed 173.000 kms. recently on a trip down to Amsterdam from Oslo!! So now I have driven exactly 100.000 kms. myself with the car as it had 71 or 73.000 kms. in 2013 when I bought it. Engine completely original from new aside from replaced AC kompressor, oil and spark plugs! I delivered it to Forza Service B.V. and he told me he had a 550 in storage with over 290.000 kms. on the clock!!!!

Picture looks like a 550, though, maybe a 575 with a backdated front bumper? That’s Porsche nerd stuff!!!

Might be 550 too, but I saw a YouTube video of the cars in the warehouse in VietNam and it was a silver 575 f1 with Bordeaux interior.

I’ve done GoldRush, but gumball3000 looks like the next level. Bucket list.

 

No, they have it listed as 575F1, and it is silver. Clearly not a 575 front. Wheels either, come to think of it. Maybe they weren’t able to get a pic of the actual car and just grabbed one from the net.

 

That may be it. It does have a stock bumper and it has Modular’s.

Well I have my 2004 575 back post conversion, OEM parts supplemented by Robin's beyond excellent components... In short, the results are beyond my expectations in every respect. Could not feel more natural and "right", as if this is the way the car was always meant to drive rather than the F1, which (to me) made it feel like I was controlling an Xbox game on a slow PC. Opinions will of course vary, but for me its transformed the experience from a car I was thinking of selling because I just didn't love driving it, to one I'm now eager to take out of the garage as often as I can. Miles are going to be added at 10X the pace, I fear

I highly recommend Damian Forbes's shop for the work, if anyone is considering here on the West coast / California. He just finished a 355 conversion before mine, and is about to start on a 599. A perfectionist who really understands what it takes to dial everything in, and won't let it out of his hands unless and until its 100% right.

And as previously mentioned / discussed above, Damian has worked on customer cars that had been converted by others... The quality of components and reliability of the work is going to make for highly divergent sales prices in future depending on who performed a conversion and the components used. A small % of these are better than OEM quality, most others seem far less so based on the rebuild work he's had to perform to make them right.

Thank Robin Hastings for his attention to detail on that... I was only going to settle for a 100% OEM look on the visible parts, and that's what you get with Robin's components. Damian has handled plenty of the OEMs, said that Robin's looked 100% original but were also 100% better quality than left the factory.

Hard to imagine going back, isn’t it? I enjoy my car _so_ much more post-Robin/Trev (and my shop, of course)

 

100%... I almost certainly would have sold the car next year had I not done the conversion. Now I can't imagine doing that anytime soon.

One additional thing to note, I often hear people describe the 575 as a fairly "bulletproof" Ferrari. That may be so, but the F1 tranny always seemed like the weakest link in the car. If anything was going to fail, I was always sure it would be the hydraulics and actuators in there.

Parking on a small hill, or a tight spot requiring lots of back-and-forth would always be cause for stress with those paddles, and stop and go traffic always made me feel the transmission was not happy doing what I was asking it to do between neutral and 1st, over and over. Perhaps it was just my perception, but never felt the F1 was designed for anything other than open road driving, not daily use requiring frequent low speed shifting. And heaven forbid you had to hand the keys over to someone, even experienced people toget new tires or an alignment... Nobody knew how to use that transmission with any confidence.

Post conversion, the transmission actually feels truly bulletproof. No less so than my 300ZX's that's 10 years older. And as I'm very good with a clutch, can't imagine needing a replacement for 50K miles, should I ever put that many on.

 

Right! Same feelings. I had about 90% at time of conversion…I’m 100% on/off and I doubt I’ll have to address the clutch for a loooong time.

Incidentally, I’m going to look at a new Z today, always loved those cars.

Advice? The new Z is great, but take a look at a Z32 from 91-'95... Truly iconic design, most comfortable interior I've ever sat in (and I have a bad back), ice cold AC etc., and as reliable as a new one (so long as it hasn't been modded or riced out.) Gets as many looks as my 575 wherever I take it.

And, I think, about 1/2 the price for a very nice example compared to what Nissan is asking today...

How much did the conversion end up costing if that's ok to ask?

 

I think my mechanic would prefer I let him discuss price, as I'm sure there will be some variance depending on a number of factors.

Suffice to say though that it is not an inexpensive undertaking, but seems like the market pays you back at least dollar-for-dollar, and in many cases a tidy profit if the conversion is done well, with the right components by the right shop.

 

I hear ya, that’s my preference, actually. It’s tough to find a really prime example, though I know they’re out there…and I won’t lie, the idea of having a sports car that actually has a warranty mixed in with all the potential nightmares is appealing. Plus, the dealer has given me several good deals on company vehicles and my current DD (Armada), so I promised I would check it out and give my honest opinion.

I doubt I’m a buyer; I could possibly be persuaded…but I would love to find a nice 90’s example as that was an IT car for me when I was a kid

 

We have 30K+ on our original 550 clutch with no signs of it needing replacement anytime soon!

The SA behind the GTC is getting a 3rd pedal too.

 

ExoticarUSA contacted me to say my clutch in the SA was pretty healthy. My “go-to” shop in Naples told me he measured it to be 75% remaining…on 21k+ miles.

Regardless I told Exoticar to go ahead and replace the clutch. I figured out it was the right thing to do with the upgraded and new manual.

 

I think that car has my name on it!
