No kidding. Newey was so entrenched with RB that no force on Earth could have taken him from there. Yet a once in a lifetime chance comes around and Ferrari turn it down. I would feel vindication in a couple of years when the AM laps the Ferrari and would love to say to them "I told you so" but it is our team, so Schadenfreude won't help. A Pyrrhic victory at best.
I also think that RedBull were quite satisfied that Newey wasn't going anywhere else and "took advantage" of his services without offering Newey just-do compensation of the likes of Lawrence Strolls offer to entice Newey to join AMRF1. That was a sweetheart deal by Lawrence Stroll and a just one as well by a master aero designer like Newey. Ferrari just didn't want to give into Newey's demands and walked away. Money wasn't the issue with Ferrari F1 but the reorganization of their F1 dept was and Ferrari F1 was just not going to have it. Amazing these guys. Pride and stubbornness I would say. They are their own worst enemy.
+1 Pride and Stubborness indeed. If you spend half a billion on drivers over a few short years surely giving the guy that has an incredible track record on knowing exactly how to build a serious winning team in a short time exactly what he wants and needs...is a no brainer? Newey gets to play with AM's factory + windtunnel which I do believe is the newest and most advanced one there is. RB's windtunnel is literally ancient and he still makes magic. And he gets partial ownership. My bet is that for 2026 AM will make an enormous offer to get Max. Added bonus of Le Mans drive as well...
Once bitten (Barnard) twice shy ............ they don't need Newey and the BS hype that comes with him I'm a Rory Byrne devotee
When 'Lambrusco' was taken away at lunchtime, they thought it was going to change, did not. Newey or not not AM will NOT pass Ferrari. We'll see...never say never.
Newey will reorganize the way AMRF1 communicates with 3 F1 depts plus Newey will have a state-of-the-art wind tunnel to work his magic. We will see what the 2026 formula brings for AMRF1.
Since Newey will only start working at Aston Martin in the second part of 2025, I don't expect his influence to be much seen in the concept of the 2006 car, which, by this time, should be at an advanced stage of design.
He underperforms the car while his teammate over performs. Status quo, though if anything Lance seems to be getting even worse....P14 vs. P8 for the 2nd race in a row? Eliminated in Q1 vs. Q3 for the 2nd race in a row? I'm actually really surprised he didn't hit the wall, that's usually how he ends street circuit races.
Yet he has more career points than any other Canadian F1 driver and that includes both Villeneuves. And soon he will have even the most starts of any Canadian F1 driver.
Well, they changed the scoring drastically since both Villeneuves and there are a lot more races per year. All that tells me is that Canada hasn't produced an even halfway decent driver since them. He's only getting the most starts because of blatant nepotism, not skill, that's kind of the point... He does now own one F1 record - most starts without a fastest lap.
Jacques did and Lance will never match that accomplishment. But there are other stats he can match or even beat.
Yep - mostly irrelevant ones. Not wins, WDC's or teammate competitions. Just ones about disinterestedly pounding laps around.
Quite different than Jacques situation but with Dad on board and owner of the F1 team, I'm pretty sure Lance will surpass that.
Let's not talk about the points scoring for the winner going from 10 to 25 and points all the way down to 10th position
