Yes this a repeat. It's Doug Magnon's collection.

    That sucks!!

I had no idea they had so many Maseratis. A few years ago I was delivering an instrument to JPL for Europa Clipper and was planning on visiting but it was "temporarily" closed to visitors. I had only heard it was an interesting collection.

makes me wonder who has the largest collections of Maseratis at the moment? Maybe there is a Maserati museum in Modena?

    That's an interesting question..

We were in Modena this June and passed the Maserati offices, but there was no indication of an 'official' Maserati museum - unlike Pagani, Alfa Romeo and Ferrari.
Un-officially the Panini Collection has a diverse collection of Maseratis. Is it the largest? - maybe measured by how many different models they display. The Righini collection had hardly any. Then there are the Maserati-powered SMs, which are Citroens, and Maserati-powered Ligiers.. Thierry Dehaeck has a very impressive collection of those..

Maybe Marc or Walter can comment what collection they know has the most Maseratis..

That was Dough Magnon's collection a work in progress. He tragically died way too young and it got sold off. I saw a bit after his demise and visited one of restaurants where we were hosted by his lovely wife. They both loved cooking so that was another one of his hobbies.

Panini is very nice. He had a model of the Maserati 420M/58 only available at his museum and he personally helped me obtain one. Very nice to deal with and a very nice collection. I saw the 420M/58 and several other cars from his museum at Laguna Seca back in 2000 when he brought them over.

Bernard G in western France had 27 Maseratis at one point in recent years but has sold off a few. I sold him his Khamsin #016 in 2009 and his QPII in 2013, I then sold it to Thierry Deheack in 2019. I also sold a Mexico from him in 2009 and, with Ivan Ruiz, sold his Ghibli Spyder to Florida in 2022.

In Germany in Bad Godesberg Rolf Schiemenz former president of the German Maserati club, who came to KHAMSIN QUARANTA in 2012 with his Khamsin #394, has a very private collection in a warehouse somewhere in the Eiffel with quite a lot of cars but I have not visited, I only went to his Bad Godesberg workshop once in 2009.

Doug Magnon in California was a friend, a great person, in 2007 when I had no choice but to sell my Khamsin he was instrumental in helping as he took the car from Monterey and hosted it in his museum for a couple of months.

I spent more than two weeks at his Riverside home in April 2013, 2 hours drive west of Los Angeles when I was there for my book Launch. He and his girlfriend were real foodies and we had fabulous meals and wines there in their home, in their restaurant and in their weekend house in Palm Springs.

I introduced him to Jay Leno which led to the Khamsin video early May 2013 Jay did upon my suggestion, unfortunately I had just flown back to Europe so was not there but it is the most widely seen K video at 729000 views as of today.

The museum had a great collection of Maseratis but would have greatly benefited from being closer to or in L.A.

He dropped me off at LAX in his Fiat Abarth and then less than a year later cancer took him very abruptly, I was shocked and saddened, he was a pillar of the classic Maserati community so it was a great loss....

Photos show him delivering the keys to my K in October 2007 to a great buyer, whose wife was the actual driver most off the time, the museum with his yellow Khamsin 1046 and mine, 1242, and him with 1046 during my visit.

Yellow Khamsin 1046!! An interesting car!! I inspected the car in Knoxville Tennessee back in 2005. I recommended it to Doug back then and he ended up buying it! It was basically a very good car - owned by an eye doctor from Oak Ridge TN if I remember correctly! Strange thing though was each head had 2 head gaskets!! Never got a good explanation as to why, but the car ran well!!

One of just seven fly yellow K's, all US cars. It was originally owned by Russel Schmidt of Michigan who also owned at the same time 1030, Celeste (light blue), automatic, which he got converted from new into the famous one off spyder by a limo bodyshop in Port Huron Michigan when the factory refused to make one for him.

He then sold both cars to Ed Waterman of Motorcar Gallery in the 80's. Ed sold 1046 right there in Michigan the first day he owned it and it then had a couple of owners in the midwest, included the one from whom you helped Doug buy it.

After Doug passed it was sold at auction to Colorado, see great photo of it in the mountains by Scott W below, then went to Texas. There it was acquired by the current Connecticut owner, who is considering selling it.

It is the only fly yellow one left in the USA, the others are either color changed or in Europe: #1272 London owned by an American, 1118 Hungary recently restored there and 1290 ex Wyoming, stalled project in Holland due to restorer severely ill.

Please tell us more about it, even if you have been sworn to secrecy you can mention some examples of racing and GT cars therein.
