You live in Houston, stay on 4 wheels, drivers are terrible around here.

 

I get it. But the bikes at the dealership are ugly. I don't do ugly. Whatever happened to the pretty Roadkings?

 

I live in a small town that is 60 miles north of Houston. I NEVER GO INTO HOUSTON.

 

If memories were all I had, I'd rather drive a truck.

 

These are the best pics I could find. Colors are not 100%, but these bikes look like a Harley to me.

Just buy a Triumph Scrambler 1200 and call it good. You don't want a modern Harley.

Okay, get a used one in the style that you like if the new ones don't move you.

I live 50 miles south of Houston and only go into town for work. Sold my last Harley 17 years ago, won't ride in the area anymore.

When I was on a ferry in BC this summer, I did see a really cool Harley parked next to me. It was an all white police special from the 1980s. According to the owner, it was one of a group of them special ordered by the Vancouver Police to escort Pope John Paul II on his visit.

 

When should I go grab that for you ? You wire funds yet ?

It you're 70 then the LAST thing you need is an overweight, underpowered, unreliable bike.

Unfortunately, these adjectives describe the "new" Harleys to a "T."

Yes, they may look pretty in the showroom (or, ugly to you), but get some miles on 'em and failures begin to crop up. BIG failures.

Specifically, what makes the new HD's "ugly" to you? Other than paint color.

I'm 72. I started riding when I was 14.

Go back and look at the bikes on the floor at my local dealership, which I came close to buying once, but I digress. Every bike is ugly. First off, I hate black on cars and motorcycles. I like pretty motorcycles. Frankly, I'm am old Triumph guy.

 

Then buy an old Triumph!

Or better yet, buy a new Triumph which looks like an old Triumph but actually is reliable and powerful.

 

Odds are whatever I buy will a forever thing. I dunno. I'm am American boy. I should probably own a big Harley and a Corvette before I do a Thelma and Louise.

What you need, and I've lost count of how many times I have posted this, is a Triumph Scrambler 1200. Looks and feels like an old one, plenty of power, reliable, can do either street or adventure stuff (and does both well), is comfortable and easy to ride and get on and off. And it's the bike you wanted when you were a kid.

The last thing you want to do is wobble around on a heavy, ill-handling, easy to drop, Harley.

 

Buy one of each, problem solved.
