Ferrari has historically done an excellent job of camouflaging the 12cilindri , the SP1, SP2, SP3, and even the 296, making it nearly impossible to guess their final design until official release. Given that, why has there been so much revealed about the F80 ahead of its official unveiling? What do you think is driving this change in approach? I guess the car is so technically sophisticated both on aerodynamic and mechanical aspects that they needed to check everything was working well together particularly when temperatures are the hottest.
    Just my two cents..

I think it's for some arcane marketing reasons. The SF90XX also was tested without camo, which spoils the fun of the mule spotting, IMO.

    This ^^

Also, some (one?, LOL) are easily confused by a simple wrap or the conviction that “they must be hiding something” and associated cognitive dissonance that the simple camo is just as effective as the all-out cladding or snow-suit camo. ;)

Well, my opinion is Ferrari has made this choice to get customers and enthusiasts used to a very very technical formal language, very different from the usual or from what most people would have expected. If they had only revealed the car without helping us, the surprise effect would have risked being disastrous in this case. it is a complex machine, very very complex. The car is extremely technical, very inelegant, no less Ferrari than other Ferraris.

I believe that they made this choice to make a very technical car only because they have space to make a clean elegant and harmonious version thanks to the Icona program.

The car ran for a long time in the form of a Mulotipo which allowed every technical component of the car to be developed and tested. Clearly testing of the complete and finished vehicle was also necessary but they would have had plenty of time and space to do so away from prying eyes. Instead they deliberately decided to go around the Factory showing everything about the car. All. Rims included. In two different versions.

Hopefully the finished design does not look like the above renderings.

There's no point in trying to hide a car in this day and age when there are hundreds of people at any time camped out in front of the factory gates with their cel phones which have high resolution cameras and are connected to the internet where everyone seems to live most of the time. Gone are the days of spy photographers getting shot at by security forces and decoy cars meant to throw them off the scent. These days it's easier to just draw it out....

Was the Testarossa the first model Ferrari tried to camouflage during development?

I’m maybe misremembering, but I seem to recall seeing photos of relatively lightly camo’d—or just incomplete prototypes of—308 GT4 and Mondial before. And definitely 348 GTB after, disguised with fake rear quarter extensions and GTO-like slots.

Please, not another black strip between the headlights. Enough with the black trim. :(

I noticed this too, however don’t read much into the lack of camo. It’s probably down to a few different factors. At this point the development is so far along and the car is so very technical and sensitive that to get detailed testing they probably want all that extra padding OFF the car. Also the car is all sold out and the clients already know what it looks like so really nothing is spoiled here. As others have pointed out it gives enthusiasts who aren’t a buyer of the car some excitement so they can post here and social media about it.
