765 is the GOAT supercar. No debate in my mind after having owned 2.

The spider replaced the coupe which then found a new home when I decided to add a P1. I've owned most of the various cars from different brands in that category.

I had the 765LT and a Pista, have not driven the 296. What. Makes it better than the 296? I believe the latter is quicker.

I can assume the lack of haptic controls for one.

I’ve never driven a 296 and am admittedly projecting my SF90 driving experience onto it, probably unfairly. I should test one out sometime.

Quite possible that the 296 is quicker in a straight line. I never launch my cars but can say that from a 25 mph roll, full send in 2nd gear in a 765 is driving nirvana. The power delivery is manic - the short pause and anticipation while the turbo spools is actually intimidating (in the best possible way).

Well said. FWIW, to me, the 296 didn’t feel as violent in a straight line as the 765. The numbers seem similar from magazine tests.

As per manufacturer claims, the 765 is slightly
    quicker.

Great write up…intimidating is indeed a word I would use to describe my pov on the 765!

It’s how Super Dave feels inside the human canon hearing the wick burn. You’re never ready enough for what’s about to hit.

For him to use the word intimidating with that sort of experience is surely worth noting, then.

Again, somehow you’re McLarens best sales rep.

everyone has a different barometer. i had 4 r8s. by no means in same league as 296 accel wise at high speeds. but i have not been "blown away" by the difference. it is faster for sure. but some people go over board with words like "mental" "insane" "unbelieveable" - even the plaid doesnt do that for me. but that's just me. and i am no F-22 pilot either.

I like the Huracan platform. I drove an Evo RWD and really liked it. People crap all over that car for some reason. Its more power than I need and that engine is glorious. I thought the lateral visibility was lacking, but I am 6'0 and have long arms and fit just fine (I've heard most guys cant fit but didn't have that issue). I think the Performante, Tecnica and STO are all really awesome.

    I like cars. A lot.

I really missed out on speccing an STO. That car was my first actual dream car since the 90's. Lamborghini's, otherwise, don't make me feel much.

The uninformed bash Lambo. Loved my Perf Spyder. What a car.
I lol when Ferrari peeps joke about gold chain Lambo owners, and then you see gaudy spec 296 and sf90 with the lipstick pack. SMH.

Yeah, I don't really know what it is. Ferrari and McLaren guys make fun of them, they seem to be the running joke. People say they don't steer well either, but the Evo I drove was fine. I know Lamborghini put RWS in the EVO AWD model and also improved steering in the EVO RWD. I didn't track the car or anything, but that's not what I would get the evo for. It's super well built and reliable, the engine sounds amazing, plenty fast for the street, it was comfortable for me and I think it looks cool. So for me, its a top supercar.

With that said, my driving experience compared to many is limited

They normally simply point out it is ultimately they are Audi’s . Built up from that platform through the shared technology arm of the company which explains many things about the cars

There’s nothing Audi about the Aventador. It’s a real piece of work. For better and worse.

I just think Lamborghinis can get a bad rap because of the type of people that drive them. There's a group that drives all these cars (Ferrari, McLaren, Lambo) not because they love cars, but because they crave attention and want people to think they are wealthy. That group seems to gravitate most towards Lamborghinis...and from my experience least towards McLaren. I suspect most of them lease their cars, too.

My Tecnica is one of the best cars I ever owned.

It's not the fastest but the sound and feel makes up for it!

I track my two Huracans (RWD and an STO) with VF Engineering (840hp) boosts, my 765, and my 296. The 765 remains my favorite street car on the track, but the 296 is very fast and has very good brakes. While the Pista might still be my preferred Ferrari street car to track, the 296 fares well versus the 765. I just think my comfort in the now three year old 765 is higher from the years of driving.

I think the 296 Speciale version will finally eclipse the 765. I have little confidence the Temerario will but have enjoyed the Huracan platform (2 Sterrato, the RWD, the STO and two GT3s currently owned).
