Image Unavailable, Please Login
Monsieur, well it’s a 3 louvre car, clearly in the USA based on the background of the picture. If I had to guess I would say it is the last 3 louvre car 0893gt, which was owned by Tom Schelble when it raced at Road America three times in 1962 and 63 wearing the number 78
0893 GT yes but it did only 2 races at Elkhart 1962 and 1963. 16 June 1962 Tom Schelble used the entry only to get cheap pit passes and DNS. 8 September 1962 Fred Rediske raced in in the RA 500 and placed 7th OA/4th in class. 22 June 1963 Bob Birmingham raced it at the RA June Sprints and placed 14th OA and 2nd in class. I only have one picture of this car at Rouen from the back with number 10 on the trunk but this would 1523GT
I owned that 0911GT for 12 years. Loved it. Did the green Mille Miglia re-runs with it and raced it all over Europe and in England. It was only after I’d sold it that I discovered it hadn’t been red originally!
I do not remember the exact figures, nor do I care much. What I do remember when I bought it is that I had to go to my bank manager for a loan of circa $8,000.00. He asked me what I wanted it for and I told him. He declined, saying that he didn't think "an old Ferrari" was worth that much. I stood up, pushed my seat back and then knelt before him, saying: "You don't understand. This is REALLY serious." "If you feel like that about it," he said. "We'll lend you the money..." BTW: I meant to say, in the original post, that I, (we, my then wife Sandra and I), did three re-runs of the Mille Miglia and on at least one occasion, I drove her from England to Brescia, did the run and drove home. No problems. One more story: 0911 GT blew a head gasket one day and I took her to the late lamented Ron Beatty's Forward Engineering in Lapworth, England, to be fixed. He called me. "Do you want the good news or the bad news?" "I'll have the bad news first please, Ron." "At some point," said Ron. "Someone has shaved the heads too low, so all the pistons have been touching all the valves." "What's the good news?" I asked. "You don't need new spark plugs!" Said Ron...
Ferrari 250 GT Tour de France 0895gt in the 2017 Official Ferrari calendar by the great Gunter Raupp. The picture was taken in Palm Beach during the 2016 Cavallino classic at which the car was awarded platinum. Image Unavailable, Please Login
His pictures are typically 'overstyled' for lack of a better term but that photo is spectacular for the way it cleanly showcases the classic design details. Thank you! Those majestic surroundings don't hurt either...
