I have this, a hidden blue tooth transmitter that lets you stream to the speakers without a head unit:

    https://outofsightaudio.com/

It's about the size of a deck of cards, so you can put it anywhere and keep the factory stock look.

The same Blaupunkt cassette that was put in by the dealer in Apr 84.

Down stream I have component speakers and a 6 disc cd changer. 450 watt amp.

Someone say they only listen to the engine and let's get that out of the way.

I have the Blaupunkt Frankfurt in my 308. Looks like it always belonged there and has all the modern niceties. Also have this same unit in my E30 M3. Of course the LED is dialed
In to match the dash. Highly recommend.

I bought a Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 DAB to modernize the audio system in my 1987 328 while maintaining a period-correct look, but it's still in the box. I just don't ever have the urge to turn on the radio, and I really like the look of the original Alpine head unit. Maybe someday I will install the Blaupunkt. Speakers will need to be replaced too, since the originals are pretty deteriorated.

Either delete plate or period correct unit for flare is good for me but almost never use em.

When I got my dash re-covered, I went with no head unit. With an ANSA sports exhaust and airbox sound deadening delete, it did not seem like a fair fight :)

Period radio, even if you never turn it on. Vintage cars are best appreciated when they stay true to their era and aren't trying to be something they're not, so no modern stuff.
As for the delete, that would be my second choice. However, I find it difficult to believe that many cars were ever delivered to customers without a radio. Not saying it was impossible, just improbable.

Looks clean. Can you take a better photo of where the radio should be. Thanks

Seems it has to be Alpine or Blaupunkt

Got rid of a late ‘90s Pioneer and installed a period Blaupunkt Tucson and amp in my QV. Better speakers were installed (no door modifications). Looks great. Almost never turn it on.

:D David beat me to it Dr Cosgrove, but I’ll go one better; my entire sound system is coming out - from antenna to speakers - along with the A/C (and anything else that’s not bolted down) as part of a project to build a reasonably lightweight 308. I often think back to the X1/9s I had as a kid and loved how simple and tossable they were. I have no delusions of getting to that point with a 308, but the A/C is essentially useless anyway, so why drag it around? I know I’ll appreciate the extra room in the engine compartment far more than I will swearing at the ineffective A/C….and it’s never a bad thing to carry around a little less weight.

I didn't reinstall the compressor after my last timing belt service. No point to it. If it is hot, I'll take something else fun that has a real AC, like my NSX. I also remove the radio and speakers from many of my cars. The S2K, NSX, SC400... no radio or speakers in them. I haven't bothered to do that in the 308 yet, maybe some day I will. I've got some modern radio in it now and it's ugly. Thankfully the faceplate removes. I need to find or make a radio cover.

I have the stock, single tip exhaust (Euro), and I still find the cabin too loud to use a radio; if I want to listen to music, I have to use earphones.

I did the same. Added a compact sub behind the passenger foot board (lots of room down there) with the amp under the passenger seat. With upgraded speakers, I can ALMOST hear the music over my Larini exhaust...

Regarding the radio, I removed the original Blaupunkt Tucson shortly after I bought the car, because it had a short and *would not turn off.* I was able to fix it, and it works perfectly now, but I never put in back in. Instead, I've built a custom switch panel with toggles and indicator lights to control and or /monitor fog lights, radiator fans, fuel pump, and sound system power. I also have a voltmeter and two USB charging ports there as well. The voltmeter in particular is a great add. Recently, it occurred to me to remove the power antenna assembly--10 years after removing the radio. The gasket was falling off anyway, and I couldn't justify restoring a component that has no functional value to the car as currently configured--so it went into one of the many cardboard boxes labelled "Misc Ferrari Parts" that I have in my garage, basement and shed.

I just have a cheap gizmo that plugs into the cigarette lighter. It Bluetooth to the phone and transmits to the original FM radio. Anything the phone gets I can listen to. However it’s really only any use in a traffic jam: at speed there’s enough noise to need it too loud!

You can hear mine with the top out on the highway with my Tubi and no cat. Not joking.

Honestly, I think OTHER people can hear my stereo with the top down at highway speeds just fine. I just can't because my hearing sucks.

US cars were shipped to dealers like that and then the dealer fitted a stereo or not depending on customer wishes. This was how mine was adapted by the dealer in 1978... no DIN back then.
