430 Brake upgrade

First.....let me say, yes, I did a search already and could not find an answer to my specific question.

I have steel brakes on the 430 I just purchased. Stock steels look lamer than a photo of Kamala as president of the US. I've read where people have done the Brembo GT kit front and rear. I am very much leaning towards this for the front but why are people doing 6 piston kits for the rear as well? MOST sports/supercars do 6 piston front/4 piston rear. Can I do the 6 piston front kit and get matching rotors for the rear, retaining the stock 4 piston calipers?

Girodisc has 2 piece floating rotors for the rear that work with the stock calipers. I'm sure Brembo does as well but I'm tired and didn't feel like fighting with Google right now. Brembo does aftermarket but from what I found down that rabbit hole is they don't like to do it piece by piece. They would rather sell you a whole kit

So short answer is yes/no/maybe. It depends on the kit but "most" companies doing BBK's should have replacement rotors to work with the OEM calipers

 

Thank you for the response. When the time comes to “get serious” about the money, intent is to talk to Vividracing and see what’s available. They seem to have one of the best selections.

I just didn’t know why people chose to do 6 piston front/rear. Wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something.

 

If your main goal is to get some more meat in there to increase the look of the "brake to wheel ratio", then wouldn't you want larger rotors in the rear also. I wouldn't imagine that you could increase rear rotor size without larger calipers. Personally I would be shopping for used OEM ceramic calipers and then buying steel rotors and pads for them, as I would assume this would be the most cost effective... But cannot say i've really done my research.

 

It is not necessary to run front & rear Brembo GT kits, but that would offer some serious stopping power and offer good looks. It is very common to upgrade only the front and retain the factory rears.

 

This OEM Ceramic front callipers (which look the best as well) with Giro floating 2 piece rotors and pads. Direct fit, no issues, just have to extend the brake hoses a tad and your done. Probably perform better than the Ceramic discs, look amazing and have none of the costs or risks.

Hardest part is getting hold of a good set of OEM front Ceramic callipers!

I’ve been watching that set in Japan but don’t want to go through the additional hassle of upgrading the brake booster, ect. And….I don’t want to spend that much. lol

Those front calipers look very tempting. Would need to source retaining springs and a few other bits but those, some Girodiscs, and pads……tempting. Want to do this in the spring so we’ll see. Was wanting to get the forums thoughts to help me nail down a plan. I received a great DM as well so I have a few options.

I would reach out to Ferr parts in Sacramento. They specialize in wrecked vehicles. They sell on ebay but obviously don't have time to put everything they have up. A good strategy is also looking at other ebay sellers that have F430 parts from a wreck they bought and contact them directly to see if the parts you need are still there and maybe just not listed. Sometimes you get a better deal as it saves them taking pictures and putting up an ad.

 

I upgraded my brakes 6 yrs ago 380 x 32 mm slotted rotors with 6 pot calipers all round awesome spotting power. I have to check i still have all the CNC info as i maybe able to offer a complete set up (ie caliper brackets/E brake bracket/ rotors/ hats all you would need is the calipers/pads and flex lines.

Damn that looks great!.....I see you had this done on a 360 I assume the backets and hoses are the same for the 430?

 

Yeah i would say correct. This set up works with standard 360 booster me thinks the B booster on 430 b the same.

 

Where did you source the brackets/adaptors from?

 

I had all hardware cnc machined locally.

 

Would you be able to offer the rear e brake bracket?

Just pulled the trigger on a Black Friday deal through Vividracing. Called and talked to Hudson and he worked up a good deal. Brembo GT kit with type 3 slotted rotors, matching rear rotors, EBC rear pads.

 

Did you get the complete set? front and rear calipers? Post some photos when you get them.

 

Just front set with matching rear rotors.

Im abroad for work and won’t get the set up installed until Feb. Going to have stock Ferrari script applied to the calipers to match the rears. Will post pics once installed with Motul RB600 fluid.

 

As it turns out, Brembo does not sell matching rotors for the rear to match the fronts on the GT kit. I’ve cancelled my order and in comms with the chap from the eBay listing that Joe posted a link to. Those are available and I’m going to grab them. Then do what Boba Fett said above. One question I’ll have for GiroDisc is, do the pads come with new pins and tension springs?

 

If you are getting GiroDiscs, make sure you order them zinc-coated or they will rust in weird places where the pad doesn't touch. Don't think you can order them online that way, you need to call them.
