Small thinking? You are going off 3 stats on wikipedia. Name one other driver going for win number 106 next season? I'll wait? That's about as silly of a question as asking you to name a man that jumped on the surface of Pluto. Did you think you were really making a clever point here? How about this question for you. Why is your GOAT of F1 that has 106 wins under his belt unable to adapt to a difficult car and is still incapable of dialing in a setup? How can someone that's supposed to be better than every other driver in history getting smoked by George Russell? Rosberg and Bottas also beat Lewis in qualifying on more than their share of occasions. Ferrari paying Lewis for marketing, not because they think he will win championships for them.
There is no reason why this thread is active after this race today. The thread title driver did nothing today. Should be DQ for grid tire pressure change
LOL U do realize I am the OP of this thread lol that try to always defend hamilton hahahahahahah U just made a fool of yourself I am a Senna Fan FYI...
U really are something else... Hamilton is awesome but do you think u can compare a guy starting in arguably one of the best car VS say a senna starting on a toleman ? And im pretty sure those stats are pointless because Giuseppe Farina won the first GP EVER therefore it only took him ONE race, so ur picture is de facto inaccurate
Nobody has argued against the fact that currently LH has the most wins in F1. But if the initial question is "who is the GOAT in F1?", that's that question "Who has the most wins in F1?" that may have, if not nothing, maybe not much to do with that initial question. If there is a GOAT in F1 (which is not even sure as diverse times are so different) the number of wins is not the right metric. If this metric would be adequate, a driver having more wins would be "greater" than a driver having less wins; an example can show how questionable this is : Jenson Button had 15 wins, does that make him greater than Alberto Ascari who has 13 ? Button won 4,9% of the races he entered, while Ascari won 40,63%. With less than ten races per year at the time he competed, Ascari obviously did not have the same opportunities to stack up wins. It has nothing to do with him being greater or not. Logic may not have much effect on fanboism, that I'm ready to accept without arguing much further.
That is also my point. I think we all have different preferences and favorites and stats can be misleading. Hamilton when he came in was blistering fast, so was max, so was vettel etc. It has been a great era where great talents overlap. Hamilton has enough pace i think to win but the reality is, overall id not say he has been better than Russell. I hope he has a great years ahead of him but sometimes you got to know when to retire. Its not longer 1993 where alain prost could come back after a year off and be wdc. The poles and lap times are SO close, the GAP is narrow and not like 1 sec per lap as it could be back then, so your lack of pace can be cruel and exposed in 2024 in ways it may not have in 1993 if you are in the best car.
To judge talent, a highly subjective characteristic, solely by statistics is absurd. I doubt very much that serious scholars of music, literature, art, science, etc., spend their time ruminating about who in those fields is the imaginary so-called “greatest of all time.” Is a rap “artist” a greater musical talent than Bach because he sold more recordings? Was Warhol more of a genius than da Vinci? Typically these titles….especially in sports….are issued by ardent fanboys and media types who take a reflected glory in being the oracles of praise for those they cover for a living. They think it makes them a part of the “greatness.” There is no such thing as the “the greatest racing driver of all time.” And if there were it wouldn’t be Lewis Hamilton, even by objective measures, as others here have already demonstrated. He’s missing a key component: diversity. What has he done besides karting and F1? Endurance? GT? IndyCar? Stock car? World rally? Moto? You can’t be the greatest driver in history if you’ve only developed your racing skills and participated and proven yourself in one narrow aspect of the sport, even if it is the most prominent.
Personally, I think the GOAT concept is a media invention to galvanize some fans into some sort of cult. I find the idea weird, delirious even. .
In music, there is no GOAT discussion, because it is abundantly clear that Mozart was the best musician of all times. All other musicians suck.
Blaming Lewis for the tire pressure is a bit of a stretch. Lewis has typically been good in the rain. Sure, not Max level but much better than avg. Lends some credence to his claims that his car was tough to drive.
It's gonna be the end of the line for granpa Hamilton next year. No matter how much of a fan of his someone is, you have to face the facts; he is in his 40's. Charles is the "prancing horse" Ferrari are betting on, Hamilton's job is to help his WDC bid
He will enjoy life at Ferrari as he did in Senna's McLaren this weekend. And will probably be faster in the races than Leclerc. Many haters will bite the tongue. Will be fun to watch
We've seen Russell V Hamilton so far: Russell vs Hamilton (2022 Bahrain->2024 Brazil) Season: 2-1 Point: 642 - 664 Race: 32 - 33 Quali: 37-28 Win: 2-2 Sprint Wins 1-0 Pole 3-1 Podium: 13-19 Front row: 10-3 Not entirely convincing.
