    Hi all,

I was driving home from work last week and there was a jam for 15mins then the gearbox light popped up and the car start skipping even gears. Water and oil temperature was not high. So, I drove back home slowly and it in the car park (without the reverse gear)…

Next day was fine and for a week it was ok. Yesterday, stuck in a jam again and the light lit up then skipping even gears again.

today, I drove the car to a nearby garage who repairs super cars and found that two sensors (one for the even gears and the other one for shifting gear in the right place) need repair. Just received the quotation and it’s around 15k USD for parts and labour….

I only had the car for a month or so…ahhaha…

Sounds like the sensors trigger a gearbox light when getting hot in traffic jam. Try driving the car where there are no traffic jams to see if something about the traffic jam is the issue, like overheating part of the transmission from lack of airflow? The Cali T transmission was altered in some ways which probably improved cooling.

Then you get to decide if driving only where the gearbox lights don't get triggered works for you or whether the issue must be repaired. And it may get more frequent gearbox lights with time. There are other threads here about the Cali transmission to let you see some other reported information about repair options and parts supply (which has expanded over time, older threads had fewer repair options than today). And don't forget your car is approaching 15 years old, repair needs increase with age of a car.

The speed sensor in the DTC is a weak part and a common problem on early Californias and unfortunatey super expensive to fix.

Thanks for the detailed info. Yes, the light is triggered even not in traffic. The garage is fixing it for me. Its gonna take a few weeks….
