Since there is no trickle charger anymore what is the best way to store your 296 for winter? My car is set for production in November which means it will most probably only hit the road in April next year.
You still plug it in as the charger deals with the high voltage battery pack and the 12 volt battery which is now AGM, not lithium. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Some suggest fill it up completely with gas and dont start it again until winter breaks to avoid moisture in the lines. Others say start it every week to two weeks regardless. Everyone agrees that tire savers are best to avoid creating a bad spot on the tires as the car will sit on concrete without moving for a period of time.
Thanks a lot! Question was oriented towards the battery charger. I always inflate tires (+1 bar); put on on foam and don't start the car during the period it sits. Seems to work fine this way.
You will be able to download the MyFerrari app and it will give access to the status of the car and show the state of charge of both the low and high voltage batteries. It dials into the car at least twice a day and will ping you an alert if there is a battery issue. It shows if the charger is connected or not but if the GPS signal drops out when it is communicating with the car it seems to think the charger is disconnected. It does not give you a lot of advanced warning though if it detects an issue so if it does send an alert I'd advise checking the car out in person asap if possible. I was in a similar situation to you in terms of my GTS arriving in time for the bad weather season and it has sat quite happily on the charger throughout the winter.
I kept mine plugged in through the winter and drove occasionally. No issues. Remember not to store the key near the car just like with the SF90’s as they are constantly transmitting data if kept to close to one another. Unplug every so often for a few hours even if your not driving it and then plug it back in I was also advised.
You can also over inflate the tires. You will see the max psi rating on the tire sidewall- they are usually something around 50psi max. I would fill it to a few psi below the max rating- 45 or so. I think the 296 also has a “long parking mode” which does something for the battery- you could look more into that to see if thats a good idea for longer term parking. Reading through this I am so very thankful I live in a climate I can drive year round. I am impressed by those who have the willpower to store their cars for extended amounts of time. I think I would not be able to and would likely just brave the snow with proper tires.
Winter is coming Can you put the car cover while the car is plugged in? I store my cars in a garage and I normally don't go there for months. Plan is to let it sit for 6 months.
How do you stop the tires from deforming? I start and move any car of mine at least every 6-8 weeks. Assuming you are letting the car’s weight rest through the tires on to the surface below, it is likely that you will have some tire deformation if you don’t move the tires at 6 months.
Hello all , in living in Romania so the winter is not so bad not lot of snow in last years but anyway the plan is to drive it 296 gts so maybe o dont open the roof but i my plan is to have the car as a daily
I just inflate the tires with 1 bar. Have this been done for years with cars even sitting 9 months. I never had any deformation or issue.
Low profile tires are typically very rigid, on the 488 I did not see any deformation even after a few months (when I was living abroad). For whatever reason, the 296 has higher profiles though (35 front and rear vs 35 front / 30 rear on the 488 and F8), and is also heavier, so maybe that's something to look at.
I cover my car with the red cover and a waterproof cover all over the charging cord . My car is kept under my carport --unfortunately I do not have an indoor garage space. Car seems happy and stays clean when I need to use it.
