I know the guy who built this car. In the flesh it's compromised by an engine and gearbox close to twice the size of a real 250 drivetrain, in a body with the same external dimensions - the cabin is very cramped indeed and it would be super hot in the footwells. It would drive nothing like a real 60's Ferrari.

At the end of the day it's a replica where the GTO car is a recreation. Moreover a rebodied 250GTE Cal Spyder can be had for circa $1m, not to mention the Ford 302 engined replicas available in the US. The CTS price is an impossible dream.

The ISO on the other hand is built on an original chassis, has an original drivetrain and is a certified continuation. I think it's fairly priced, but I wouldn't want it either because you soon get sick of having to explain the "story" to every bloke who comes up for a chat in the servo.

Wasn't aware of all that, I was just comparing to GTO Engineering costs, the circa $1m is that $US? Sounds like on that basis the CTS price is overly high, be interesting to know what Nick K's recreation cost him to do, he told me all about his one time when we were at a race meet together, I just never asked him what he spent.

His ads are without a doubt the most tedious and annoying to read. Waxes lyrical about the history of the Type 51, yet he’s selling a replica built in 2006 with no ties to Bugatti. Ridiculous

Was the best gearbox I ever used

Was brilliantly smooth and positive from cold to hot

Probably just a loose fork but I used Loctite on all bolts do hopefully not broken

Hahaha... not likely! Never fear, the car is safely on its way home on its own trailer; will get sorted before long.

    Another Day

    Another Tow Truck ride !

Caterham off; fresh from bare metal nut & bolt resto !

Ferrari on; for diagnosis of faulty ignition supplied & installed by Tim Embleton of Black Stallion Motors

Following a $6K 'annual service' (which I did not ask for) the car was returned to me running on 7 cylinders 3 times

Mr Embleton refused to make good his poor workmanship & let the car sit static in his workshop from May 2023 until February 2024

    "I'm confused - I can't figure out what's wrong"

Having been a customer for 13 years; I eventually removed the vehicle in disgust realizing I was being turned over

To say I am angry would be an understatement

Tim Embleton is on the run (Hell hath no fury)

BSM is for sale (off the market) to an old & established client

Yes; & I must say what hurts the most is the time wasted = 18 months & counting

Followed closely by pointless expense (4 times $100 taxi fares) in the face of frank & simple unwillingness to tell the truth or accept responsibility

A demonstrated & complete cavalier contempt for 'the customer'

Mr. Embleton (ex Bosch Australia Service Manager) has removed all mention of his Ferrari 'BSM Ignition' from his website

Superformance UK has them listed as 'on Manufacturer's backorder'

Could not lie straight in bed

I have waited patiently for a friend who is both competent & honest to become available:

We will be going back to dizzy's & MSD

I may well begin a thread on the debacle !

I never liked the “look” of the BSM ignition. I’d heard the distributor cap was a Ford part?? Just pull it all off and put back to original or add an MSD as you indicated. It’s not hard working on this old cars, plenty of resources out there to help guide you AND the sense of satisfaction sorting it yourself is priceless :)

    Yes:

I paid the Galah a lot of money for a full engine & gearbox rebuild in 2017

I asked for the distributors to be returned to me which did not happen

Tim at BSM placed them in 'storage'

When he told me he was selling the business (BSM) in December of 2023 the penny dropped for me & I saw all colours red

It took a couple of weeks to get my property (the dizzy's); timing was everything & it did require a certain forensic insistence :D

But the big sook surrendered almost immediately & returned my property; all the while maintaining the lie he would fix the car !

I knew I had a car with profound ignition problems so it was imperative the original equipment be returned

Meanwhile he maintained the pretense there was nothing wrong & would be fixed; not so !

His faithful retainer Alan had seen the writing on the wall some time before & fled for untroubled pastures after a decade grafting for the weasel !

The car I eventually removed from there in February 2024 having been 'fixed' was not fit to drive
