Let me ask you .is not fiorano ...... because mine is so stiff ......... at the limit of what is bearable on a bumpy road
What is a 765glt? I assume you are not referring to the Mclaren 765lt as you need a Time Machine for that.
Maybe I am missing the sarcasm? The Mclaren 765lt ended production 2 years ago. However plenty of low mileage ones around. My old one is back for sale in Orlando.
Sorry no sarcasm intended. I didn't know the 765lt was done. I got all excited reading these posts and wanted to look into it. Probably better to buy a used MAC anyway. Thx.
It was limited to 765 coupe and 765 spiders. It was produced in 2021 and 2022. Coupes are just back to MSRP (+/- 20k either way) and spiders are still over MSRP. I had a coupe and it was amazing. Very raw and a true track focused road car. One of the only 2 cars I’ve owned that scared the crap out of me.
I really enjoyed this write up, and while I own a 720S (no 765LT), my test drive of the GTS before ordering shared some of the same impressions. I'm glad I'm not the only one who found the seating position a bit difficult. I think ingress and egress is far harder on the 296 compared the 720S. I honestly would have bought a 750S if it looked a bit more different than the 720, but after two Macs I wanted a change. Although I'm now considering keeping the 720...just have space limitations to deal with. Regardless, thanks for the write, and happy to know the Ferrari is a bit more difficult inside, I thought maybe I was just older and fatter than when I bought my Macs.... Out of curiousity, which seats did you spec in your car? I have track dedicated cars, so I went with the comfort seats over the racing, but haven't had a chance to sit in them in a car yet.
Yes the ingress egress are a bit tighter than other cars but I don't really notice it when I use the car. This car is so incredible it will make you forget these minute details. Unless you are morbidly obese, then that is a different story. I honestly prefer this to my 720 spider I had. The tech was too outdated in the McLaren and the build quality was not worth the price. I was not very impressed with the 296 when I test drove the car initially to be honest. It is hard to gauge a car after driving it 30 minutes. Now I love it. I have the carbon seats and they are very comfortable and they look so good!
I speced the carbon daytona racing seats as well. There are only a couple of them on autotrader so i think we are among the minority
Very nice notes! 2 questions: 1) Do you have the racing seats? 2) Do you have the AF package? I have the ML 600LT and the F8 now. I love the raw feeling and suspension of the ML and wish the F8 had more of that. Wondering if the 296 with AF package would be closer to that LT experience.
how tall are you so that you’re still feeling high up even with racing seats? I’m 6’1” and they feel perfect. I’m hoping they feel the same for the 296. I get the lift and bumpy road options, but I’m hoping the AF is so good that it makes up for the lack of the other two, again with the intention to get closer to the LT raw experience
I’m 6’3. Idk, partially I think it’s because the McLaren seating position is so perfect I have it to compare to but it’s also real with the tightness. A 6’2 buddy who’s older, less flexible, and all torso got in and really struggled. He has an F12 with racing seats and fits fine.
Compliments to the OP, this was / is a very good thread on the 296 pros & cons esp relative to a few other makes. Has me now itching to look into a 296 . Cheers
Update on something that there’s been posting about elsewhere and that’s the charge level dropping or car having issues with prolonged sitting. 4 days of sitting now unplugged and the estimated battery range is still at 15 miles. Car starts instantly. So I see this as a corrected or non issue for most. I do plan on plugging in from time to time this winter, but I’ll do that with all my exotics that sit.
Great write up - I was chatting to Seen Through Glass at the weekend after he just released his 296 video and he again said that 765LT was a more visceral and engaging experience… “you feel like the 296 drives you” I guess with all the tech.. for me I want the whole mix - performance, styling, finish and versatility (with hybrid) of the F car especially living in central London… and the badge …I don’t think there is anything comparable at that price point in the market pound-for-pound (is the new Huracan actually in production?)
