FWIW while I am not a fan of Damon Hill as a commentator, I greatly admire him as a man. He overcame the devastating loss of his father and the financial fiasco which followed, starting from nothing and fighting his way to a WDC. It is an incredible story. Contrast his journey to that of Lance Stroll?
I guess someone at Skysports was listening to all the negative comments about Damon Hill. I am surprised he didn't get to stay until the end of the season though.
Sacking people mid-season or before contract end for maximum effect is very much the norm in broadcasting.
I dont see any confirmation in the media that DH was sacked but purely that negotiations broke down over several months. If he was sacked for being a pundit for Sky sports F1 then he was sacked for doing his job.....a pundit i.e a person who gives opinions in an authoritative manner usually through the mass media. Who's next......Brundle, Chandok, be careful for what you wish for. Whether you agree or not with his manner, style or comments he doesnt deserve to be dismissed (as some speculate) as this just panders to the woke brigade who dislike him for being a the very thing he is employed for.......a pundit. Strange world we live in but at least he will retain the role as ambassador to F!.
Max joins a handful of F1 greats. Max is the 6th F1 driver in F1 history to have won 4 or more WDC titles. Max is the 5th F1 driver in F1 history to have won 4 WDC titles consecutively.
Congrats to Max on 4xWDC. A phenomenal achievement. Whilst he had by far the fastest car at the start of the season, it was great to see him step up and find another gear when the others caught and passed the RB. He defended his WDC lead amazingly well, and outperformed expectations. The Brazil drive, in particular, was WDC worthy. Bravo.
what's funny is even Zak forgets in 2021 Max won WDC, yet Mercedes won the WCC so he won his first championship in the second fastest car and his fourth in the third fastest car (with an asterisk for Checo's abysmal performance)
The asterisk is important here. If checo were replaced by any of the other drivers in McLaren, Merc or Ferrari, RB would be leading the WCC. RB were so far ahead for the first 7 races it’s not even funny. As of right now, and now that mclarens illegal wing has been banned, the RB is probably still the second fastest car. Checo has cost RB an awful lot of money in lost WCC constructor cash…
Now the announcers can refer to him as four time world champion Max Verstappen, just like they refer to that used to be 7 time guy a hundred times anytime he is mentioned
Max and interesting shouldn't be used in the same sentence. He is unlikeable. No media buzz. Boring. Sir Lewis Hamilton is still the face of F1. He will never be like Sir Lewis Hamilton.
The sport will be great when lewis leaves , we can finally sweep all the egg shells off the sport. I hope ferrary cans him, or should i say rari
Can't we just enjoy Max's achievement without bringing Hamilton or anyone else into the thread. I don't think anybody on the grid now could do what Max has done over the past 4 years. Like him or not, he is the best driver right now.
I like Max. But I tend to like people that aren't fake, the say what's on their mind and don't sugar coat their words for the snowflakes. I like people that don't make excuses and are dedicated. I like people that don't need to flash their wealth or status around or use it to gain popularity. I like people that don't bring their private beliefs to work or try to push a political statement. I also like people that deserve to be in the seat their are in and deserve the success they achieve. For me, Max checks a lot of these boxes. On the contrary Lewis does the opposite and is one of the most unlikable drivers in F1. To each their own obviously. However I still think I can judge them fairly for their on track performances or questionable tactics, regardless of my personal feelings towards.
