Right on. I figured that was the case given that it seems the problem is likely the x431 software's trouble reading the values from the old TCU.

Hopefully I'll be able to report back in the next few days after I get the ap200 and can get the CS TCU in.

Keep up posted on the results, I'd be curious how that works.

Ok but it only reads you cannot write anything with the AP200 correct?

I'm still looking for a version to make my 360 happy, I have a 2003 and the TCU access with the X431 and SW v.11.20 is a bit spotty at best. I thought this TCU is a newer P/N which would not lead into these issues.

The other thing is -- in the Launch application, is the 'TCU First version' refer to a first version of the car ECU or a first version of the Launch program to access the TCU?

It refers to the first version of the TCU e.g 2.01

Yes it is read only ..but the autel ultra scan (expensive) would probably be more for you

Theoretically, would another option for him be to have a good indie shop reflash the TCU with newer firmware? Not sure how much that typically costs, but it seems like it would be a 1-2 hour job, right?

I guess the downside would be that the most common is the CS firmware, and you'd be getting that shift mapping/behavior, but it seems like that would be desirable for most folks.

A 2004 or CS TCU would be a option

So, the autel device doesn't seem to be able to read any data from my TCU. I'll give it another shot when I have more time later, but when I selected any of the detected gearbox options (semi auto first/second version, marelli, etc), all of the attributes returned n/a.

You beat me to it. Just occurred to me that the immobilizer might prevent access.

    It's scanning now.

    Thanks!
