I'm fairly new to the Ferrari scene. I don't own one yet but hope to soon.

What are the general thoughts on 458 spiders that have 40k miles or more?

Heres my guess.. under 30k miles and you can still enjoy the car while not really losing money on it. It will retain its value pretty well. Especially if you sell it while it still has under 30k miles, or low 30's.

40k or more and you can enjoy it but will lose money. When it gets to 50k or 60k miles, that is not an attractive Ferrari for resale.

The thought process is keeping in mind both the reliability of the car and hoping to not have a ton of repairs, as well as the collectibility/resale value.

I would say go for it. These cars are well built. There's plenty of information on here about the details if you search. There's things to watch out for and repairs/maintenance to budget for but there are plenty on here who have "high" mileage 458s (some over 100k miles). I would not say these are ever going to be collectible.

I rarely see them for sale over 50k miles. Why is that? Is it just not worth it to sell at that point?

How much would a well kept one cost at 50k or 60k miles?

From what I've seen, over 40k ones are under $200,000.

Anything over 10K miles is considered high, although as the 458 ages this perception may change

Alternative view, people who have driven 50,000 miles in a 458 realize they should never sell.

I think there can be issues with the transaxle but I don't have experience with that. expensive little bugger at 40K or so....

At 40k miles, you'll need to think about getting your pistons cleaned because the 458 is direct injection. I think at 40k miles, its a drivers car and you should worry less about future value. It's near the bottom of the depreciation curve I would think at that point, but I'm no expert. Remember, when buying any car, its the owner that you're "buying", not the car necessarily.

I’m at 50k miles now and pretty much daily my 2013 spider. Still love the car, I’ve had it 6 years, why sell it?

Im at 51k and at this point, Ive driven the depreciation out of it... no major issues ever, and would probably buy another before selling this one.

My old car is up for sale again. I can tell you I had no issues with this car when I owned it. I sold it some years back to a friend who also had no issues as well. He then sold it to the current owner. So it’s served us well.
