Read some of the posts regarding the sound on the F8. Mine is a 2022 model and I read the 22 model year is possible to get CEL. Any truth to that ? Seems like the Novitec is the way to go. I just want better sound.

OPF is a part of the OEM exhaust so yes you will need some sort of device to trick the system.

GPF delete is illegal and will void the warranty.
    Good luck.

    You're not alone...

Based on the recommendation of another Ferrarichat member who was kind enough to jump on a call and discuss the details with me, I'll recommend the full Novitec system. Yes, it's expensive (see below), but...

    - the result is great, sounds quite a bit better (I'd say at least 50% increase in volume and pitch note)
    - it's full bolt-on solution (so you can reverse it to stock)
    - you can close the valves and have a more quite / stock mode
    - it won't trigger an CEL.

I've had mine for a year and >8k miles and it's been flawless. Also the local dealer here in NorCal know about it but they won't do or say anything unless there's a big engine failure, and I've heard 0 issues about this (happy to be corrected if so).

Having sad this, you do need to find a shop / mechanic that know what they're doing.

    Costs:
Muffler Section with flaps - $13,180
    Techtronic Module - $1,690
    Switchtronic Module - $1,110
    Sport Cats (100cel) - $8,820

I will be recording a few videos with the gopro during the week.

    Hope all this is helpful.

Marty you are correct. Tricking the system is the part that gives me concerns.

Ok here we go! Best to use a headset.

    1) Cold start + closed valves
    https://photos.app.goo.gl/jergyupU27r2cQmn7

    2) Leaving garage, closed valves
    https://photos.app.goo.gl/AACcJPMZ7oqX6TvY6

    3) Easy cruise as I left the house, closed valves (basically how it sounds stock)
    https://photos.app.goo.gl/dp5BULXvSXMKq4R47

    4) Same easy cruise, valves open
    https://photos.app.goo.gl/FQe2mPP9mLw5PVLA6

    5) Easy cruise, first with closed, then open, same RPM, simply pushing the button
    https://photos.app.goo.gl/AWP94E9MJRYhyaoX8

    6) Hard acceleration, valves open, windows closed
    https://photos.app.goo.gl/oNQh7u4NsAq6Hdem9

    7) mountain passing, valves open, windows closed
    https://photos.app.goo.gl/31pstXy4AWwXkDb46

    1) and 5) are the ones that really make the difference obvious to me.

    Couple of notes:
Unlike other NA cars (like the 458 or the 812), I usually don't drive with the windows down, as the wind noise makes it harder to hear the engine note. I end up driving either with the windows down just a couple inches, or windows closed. When going fast, it's best to keep the windows completely closed. That's why at the track (where windows down is a must), i don't hear the engine that much and so it's not as enjoyable an experience as it could be.

One more thing to note is that with the Novitec system the down shifts in Race mode are way better and louder.

    My bottom line:
While I've been able to ultimately improve the sound substantially, I still feel like this car doesn't sound all that great, ESPECIALLY considering the money paid. If money is not an issue, it's a no brainer. It's pretty much as fast and as loud as a Pista.

    Hope it's helpful. Happy Thanksgiving!

Is there much of a difference in cold start between valves open or valves closed? I don't have the switchtronic, cold start is quite loud, wondering how much closed valves help.

Ok to answer this is a bit tricky:

First, once you install this system, with or without the Switchtronic, you CANNOT avoid a loud start, even with the valves closed. However, the trick I use is the following:

    1) I always park it with the valves closed
    2) Then come the next day or whenever I drive the car again, I start it up (loud) and then I shift it into 1st gear within 3-5 seconds. This quiets it down just like in stock, as it shows on video 1.

So if you don't have the Switchtronic valve opener and closer, it'll be loud for at least 1 minute (probably what you're getting, right?), and even after that when you leave the garage you'll still get a pretty loud exhaust, which is not very neighbor-friendly.

So to me the Switchtronic is a must-have.

    Hope this makes sense...

That is not good lurching it into gear before it has warmed up and dropped idle naturally.

Most cars need 30-45 seconds before they drop idle after initial start up flare. I had the same idea for my Huracan with factory race exhaust that would wake the dead. Shop foreman at Las Vegas Lamborghini said not to because fluids haven't flowed everywhere yet. Call your dealer's shop foreman and see what they say.

The videos are great. Thank you for taking the time and the drive to do it. How often do you close them ? Do they stay open if you stop the engine then restart ? I guess do the default to the closed position. Good Job !!

Will definitely ask. Im lucky to have a local mechanic that worked for Ferrari and opened his shop 20 yrs ago. He also installed the system, so he should know. I’ll let you guys know what I hear.

in the event I should wait in idle, I’m still better offer having the switchtronic so I can keep the valves closed and engage 1st gear after 30 seconds and leave the garage in neighbor-friendly mode…

I drive with them closed until I leave my neighborhood and the engine is warm. Once I get out, I open them and never close them until end of the day and in my garage. In other words, the only time it’s too loud is in the cold. Otherwise the sound is nice but never too annoying or loud, so I always drive it with the valves opened.

Yes, they stay open unless you change them. They have memory, so there’s no default position.

Thx for appreciating it. I had fun doing it. I’d like to record additional videos of pass bys but I need someone to help me with it.

ok I spoke to my local mechanic and he said it’s not a problem at all to start it up, give it just 5 seconds and engage 1st gear and go. The BIG critical factor here is to not rev the car until you get the right temps. I usually just roll out of the garage and the area in <2k RPM and never rev it until a good 5 min pass and the oil temp is >170 degrees or so.

But I highly question that the fluids will not flow through if you’re in gear. The car starts up with the valves open and higher revs by default in order get the temp up. But if you choose to engage gear early, then the valves will close and you just simply need to drive softly until the temps are up.

So this way I can avoid a long, loud cold start.

hate to say it but I think you're screwed. First they kill the sound (and driver engagement) by amping up the computer controls in the F8 vs 488/458, then they equip it to precent you from addressing what they did! And if you persist, they will void the warranty. It makes me sick to see how woke Ferrari has become and, similar to the F1 team, they are behind the curve AGAIN in moving away from the woke DEI BS as a company. Disclaimer: 488GTB owner with Novitec exhaust + Fabspeed cats and charge pipes and could not possibly be happier with the music emanating from behind my head when driving :)

JDINPA I agree with you totally. I've read where folks have done it and are pleased with the results. I've also read some folks have had a few issues. I believe it all has to do with the type of exhaust you want and how far you want to take the modification. Thanks for your input.
