Hi All, Has anyone swapped a front harness on a 458? At home or outsourced to a shop. If at a shop, labor hours to Remove/replace/reset. Thanks in advance Rex
Do we have a source on the forum to access a parts catalog and see the harness and the layout? In a PDF format or a pic showing the location of the harness and a rough layout.
Scuderia parts website has lots of diagrams you can check there. Also the service manual should have everything. I can check mine this weekend.
Just got there and ordered. Thank you for pointing that out as well. Now just need to swap it out. lol when i receive it. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Did you mean to type 40 hours? I built a custom harness for my Toyota some years ago and even that took countless hours. You can spend 30 minutes just getting one connector on and off on something like a 458 - not to mention having to remove the front tub and all that. I think 4 hours for that is very optimistic and would be super interested to hear how long this job actually takes the OP. Ray Image Unavailable, Please Login
oh, I though the OP is to replace the harness with a brand new harness. Not to replace individual connectors
I think you're right - just install a brand new harness. - but nevertheless, disconnecting harnesses can be a major ordeal. Have you ever replaced a harness yourself? Those clips can connectors can be a bear. Sometimes the connectors seal themselves together pretty hard due to the water tight nature of the seal. If you encounter one in a difficult to reach area, it can sometimes be very time consuming to get it to disconnect.
I hope that you ordered the correct harness. Ferrari lists forty-two different part numbers for the front harness depending on country, options and assembly number. Even then, I would recommend getting the part number off of the tag on the original harness before ordering a new one. It took the dealership I that worked for multiple tries to get the correct dash harness for a car that I repaired. In terms of harness replacement time, you never know what has to be removed in order to replace the harness. The wiring harness is one of the very first things to be installed in the car when it is assembled. Don't be surprised if major components must be removed (steering rack, column, dash, etc) in order to replace the harness. Maybe you will get lucky and it will be plug and play, but don't count on it.
why do you want to replace the harness in the first place? its a very rare endeavor. I did that when I swapped my 360 to a CS.
front end damaged that was fixed by the previous owner. No history on the repair other than visual. I know some sensors are not available and were omitted (cut and not replaced,. Starting fresh with a new harness will eliminate a lot of unknowns and establish a base line.
How did you come up with that part number, 279550? It is not shown in any Ferrari parts catalogue. Did you get the number off of the tag on the oricinal harness?
If you click on the box that says "what does this fit", it comes up as not be found in any parts catalogues in the system. It might be a part number supersession, but it is not listed in any Ferrari parts catalogue. I would get the number off of the old harness and go from there. Also maybe try to find a used harness.
I don't know the exact situation you are dealing with on the existing harness, but it almost sounds like it might be easier to buy the missing sensors (off eBay) with the harness (if you can find them) and simply graft the wires together. How many locations are cut do you think? Ray
That’s also an option, but I think it’s truly just a four hour R&R and that gives me the position. Just not knowing what’s missing That’s also an option. If i knew what’s missing.
You know he was only joking about a 4 hour job? On some Ferraris, you have to remove the front bumper to get to sensors or cut into moisture proof seals and reseal them. Did you check out all the branches of the old harness?
