I believe I have come up with the perfect iphone/stereo upgrade solution for my 360. Should work on the 430 as well. I 3D printed a replacement for the center AC vent and incorporated a MagSafe charger. I am very proud of how it came out. If anyone is interested in the .stl file for the mount, let me know. I'm happy to share Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Basically, I made a replica of the AC vent with a threaded socket to mount an ESR MagSafe charger. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08HNBHSQV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login the notch on the bottom rim is to allow the USB cable to pass through Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login I used a 12 volt to USB converter and wired the charger into the switched power supply for the stereo https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08RBWX2GL?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1 Image Unavailable, Please Login Came out better than I expected. Works flawlessly, holds a phone very securely in either landscape or portrait position and keeps the phone charged. The vent is very easy to remove and this mod did not require any irreversible modifications to the car whatsoever. If anybody is interested in this mount, let me know. I will be happy to provide the STL file 3773680[/ATTACH]
Very cool indeed! If you have free time on your hands, you should market and offer them for sale! May be a niche market, but that could be adaptable to many models across the lineup and would be a good option for people who don’t want to use an aftermarket head unit! Good job
Maybe I will. Do you know how many other models use this type of round vent? I think it's quite a few from this era
I think it would probably fit a 430 just fine. Here is the picture of the 430 vent. The front is a little different, but the changes just look cosmetic. The rest of the housing is exactly the same. If you can confirm that it will fit, I will be happy to make you one Image Unavailable, Please Login
IMHO, Blaupunkt has always made some best looking radios for European cars, but I have had the worst luck with their reliability. I got so fed up I contacted them about a failure, and they claimed it was from getting "coca-cola" spilled on the unit. From the guy with celiacs disease that never buys fast food or eats food in the car! There was 0% that unit had coca-cola or any other soda spilled on it.
430 and 360 are compatible. You can type the part number into any parts supplier and it will have a “this part fits” list. Chances are it will fit many. I believe even the Enzo uses them, as well as the 550/75/99… Just different ring colors and external vent designs. But the internals are the same
Happy to test it on a Scud! I just want the phone mount magnetic part - don’t care at all about integrating charging
you got it. Since you're the first to try it in a 430 this one will be on me. You can just pay me for shipping and the cost of the magsafe mount. I just ask that you post pics and a review here when you get it installed. PM me and we'll set it up
Mine has been great so far. It is really hard to find something that comes close to matching the color and does not look like it belongs in 98 Civic.
if you wanted to fit a threaded bolt on your mount using one of these would be awesome - they're waaaay stronger than the ESR ones in my experience. https://www.shopmoment.com/products/multi-thread-mount-for-magsafe-1
Thanks for the suggestion, that mount looks pretty cool. Doesn’t have an option for charging though. The ESR mounts seem to work quite well in this application. At least for me, I’ve never had the phone come loose. I also use an ESR branded case, which might help. It would certainly be very easy to incorporate that style amount into this build. I’d be happy to make one like that if somebody’s interested, but I think the ESR amount works perfectly and it’s nice to have the option of charging the phone. Dave
Installed pics on the scud! Thanks, Dave! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ah, the case + mount combo likely helps a lot. Very cool solution! I would absolutely try one but I’m back to just leaving phone in side pocket after installing the Power Acoustiks CarPlay head unit.
The power acoustiks head unit was what got me started on this project. I installed one and it worked great, but I found myself taking my eyes off the road too much. It was hard for me to see due to the location low on the dash and the glare with the top down. Plus. I missed the volume knob/buttons, etc. Ultimately, this was a better solution for me. The mount pairs really well with the Blaupunkt Skagen head unit which looks old school but has bluetooth, built in mic and multiple LED colors that come really close to matching the rest of the dash. It even has a "Siri" button. I usually run waze on my phone, which, when placed in the mount is closer to eye level and has a nearly 100% success rate at finding speedtraps in my region.
I just installed one of Dave's mounts and wanted to share a few pics. Very cool solution which will let me swap the Power Acoustics deck out for something better looking and with better sound. Thanks Dave. (for completeness, I am using a Speck case: https://speckproducts.com/collections/iphone-16-pro-max-cases/products/presidio2-grip-magsafe-with-clicklock-apple-ap-1034-cases?variant=44720339648643) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice work. Great to see a folks being creative and productive with new ideas. Any other ideas in the pipeline?
Thank you for checking out my iPhone mount. I’ve been really flattered by the interest from people in this forum. I made a few modifications to the original, and I’ve got it really dialed in. Because of that, I would prefer not to send out the STL file instead, I’m happy to make you one and send it your way. Feel free to DM me if you’re interested and I’ll get started on it for you Dave
