Anyone have any leads or info on Bilstein shocks for the TR's, either NOS or reputable rebuild. All information is appreciated. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.
Performance Shocks in Sonoma CA I have used and been very pleased with. Also RE Suspension in Mooresville NC has a good reputation. Both will rebuild yours. I know of no source for new or exchange. Both specialize in race car suspension so this is a very good time for them. Probably not a huge backlog.
I just had mine rebuilt at Performance Shocks, I live in Oakland so I dropped them off and picked them up... approx $3800 for all 6. Another thread on this with more details -- https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/512-tr-shocks.698399/
His car has Bilstien. Koni has a pretty good rebuilding service. Bilstien has one too but I would never call it pretty good. I have used PS many times and as I said they are very good but I know the area very well and it is one of the most expensive areas to operate in the country. Thats why I mentioned the other guys.I have heard good things and much lower prices
3 Hours/Shock @ $200 per hour. That's just what it takes. Maybe there's an EU facility that has lower cost labor?
High quality subcontractors with faultless reputations are very rare. I'd never consider sending my irreplaceable shocks to to my multiple hundred thousand dollar car to a foreign country to save a few hundred dollars. I do this every day, and know very well how rare subcontractors of that quality are and that would be very bad decision making.
Thanks this is all good information. Thank you everyone for chiming in. I may be wrong but I have been told the TR-Testa Rosa has Koni and do not fit the 512TR/M as they have Bilstein's. As time goes on it is going to be more and more important to have reliable OH for shocks ect to keep these car running.
The whole car came from Italy and Sonoma, CA is literally the most expensive labor market. Surely there's one EU facility with a good reputation (even Curated sends its Lamborghini engine work out to EU contractors). Not saying PSI isn't worth it, just saying there's a very limited list of options and PSI can't suddenly "become cheaper".
As other have said the Koni one can be rebuilt there are a few places that can do it. Just like the fuel distributors there are times where they'll need to be sent out for a good refurb. There are also some Japanese aftermarket ones available and coil over kits too. I prefer to stay as original as possible so my own personal preference would be to have them rebuilt.
