The following switches on my 2007 F430 are not illuminated: Rear bulkhead storage compartment Heated side mirrors Trunk Gas cap door Parking lights Notably, my window and convertible top switches are illuminated. Also, the air control "Off" and recycle switches are illuminated. So, it seems odd that the five aforementioned switches are not illuminated; perhaps they are not supposed to be? Does anyone know which control switches are supposed to be illuminated on a '07 F430? Jason
Some switches only illuminate with the exterior lights on. The background lights for those 5 switches are controlled by relay AR11 which is activated when the steering column light switch is activated.
Thank you for responding to my query! When I actuate the exterior lights via the steering column stalk the five switches do no illuminate. So, I assume the AR11 relay is faulty? Is this one of the relays located behind the panel in the trunk? Jason
Update: I found and checked relay AR11 and corresponding fuse AF5 and both are good. So, I continue to be stumped as to why the aforementioned switch lights do not illuminate. Jason
Do your number plate lights illuminate? Have you done any work on the dash recently and disturbed the earth? Do your exterior lights work (sidelights, low beam, high beam, etc)
Can you elaborate on this? Fuse: Visual check? Resistance check? Power check on both ends? Relay: Makes a sound when coil activated? Has continuity when coil activated on bench check. If you jumper the relay socket, do the switch lights and number plate lights work?
Yes, my number plate (license plate) illuminates. This suggests that the fuse and relay are in working order. As a test, I pulled the relay and the license plate light ceased to operate. So, I know the relay is not faulty. I did a continuity test on the fuse and found it to be good. However, if the fuse was blown, the license plate would not illuminate, but in my case it does. Jason

Because your number plates are working, it may not be that connector, but sometimes Ferrari put pigtails on plugs rather than in the wiring harnesses.

Disconnecting something in the centre console wouldn't affect the first switches you mentioned. It still points to a broken splice/wire on the aft side of connector YA02/XA02. Unfortunately, I don't know how far aft. It could be in the cabin. Image Unavailable, Please Login If your number plate lights and the fuse are ok, it doesn't sound like a short causing these issues. I don't know how accessible AX02 is. Not sure if it's behind a moisture barrier. You could backprobe the plug and check for volts on pin 31 with the lights on if it's easy to get to.
Perhaps you could use a wire tracker and inject the tracker signal into relay socket AR11 pin 5 and trying to pick up the signal in the cabin, under the dash.
Question please Qavion: how did you identify pin #31? Presumably this is supplying voltage to the switch lights? Jason
With the lights turned on I put the positive lead of my multi meter on pin 31 and the negative lead to ground and measured 0 voltage. I'm struggling with understanding the order of connector Y/XA02 and the fuse box. Does current flow through the fuse AF 5 and then through pin 31 on connector Y/XA02? Or...? Jason
Yes, but by removing the plug you are removing key power from the relay coil. You'll have to backprobe the connector pins/sockets with something sharp. So you found pin 31 (yellow/red wire). Thanks for the pic of the plug. Do you have my latest lights wiring diagram?

Do you have something like this? Image Unavailable, Please Login I'm not sure how usesful it will be in this situation because the wiring harness is so thick. The radio waves sent down the wire can be absorbed and re-radiated by adjacent wiring, so you're never sure if you're following the right wire. You can adjust the sensitivity (signal strength) to reduce this effect, but you're never sure by how much. Ferrari diagrams don't tell you if the 4 branches on the splice (pigtail) are at one point or if there are multiple splices along the length of the wire. I suspect, somewhere in the cabin where you have been working, the wiring has been disturbed/damaged.

Maybe you could try shaking those thick harnesses coming through the bulkhead to see if you get any change in light behaviour?
I found your circled area of interest. See pic. So I wiggled, pulled, twisted and disconnected and reconnected the various electrical connectors in hopes making contact with the supply voltage to the switch lights. But no joy. I now know that 12VDC is flowing from pin 31 on connector XA02 as it supplies energy to the number plate lights, which are working, as well as the switch lights. So my next step is to purchase the tool you referenced in hopes of determining where the VDC is going for the switch lights. I've enjoyed the journey, notwithstanding my lack of success.
