Caught fire yes, burned to crisp, no. Seems an injector line failed. Engine and chassis mostly unaffected. Will need a new rear deck. Car stopped on track and fire fought with fire bottles by driver and chase car driver until fire truck arrived.

    So the original 1020?

If the owner is going to take this kind of car out for laps (which I definitely think they should!) then it's probably a good idea to fit the car with a robust fire suppression system inside the engine bay, no?

As they say, o.50 cents head, o.50 cents helmet.

Well aware that cars catch fire, but at this caliber,
and only a supposition, but if this precious car was ill equipped for fire protection..., yikes !!!!!

Same can be said of Notre Dame.

As Sir Sterling said "if its worth that much, its worth fixing".

Hopefully they were not the original parts as 50 years old magnesium does not pass easily mandatory crack tests!

According to a man (J.G.) who has owned numerous 512S or M that was the best of them..before the fire...
Thankfully we can be sure the Auriana collection will restore it in the best conceivable way.

I worked where 1040 resided in the late 70's early 80s and much of the original mag was deteriorated then.

That's him in the dark jacket under the umbrella. Always ready for a nice chat, very quick. Has a BBLM and several other F racing cars.

Mr Monteverde divesting himself... perhaps he stopped racing since he crashed the tool room copy of this (real) car at Brands Hatch?

isn’t his car the Escuderia Montjuich car? 1002? He then bought a copy of 1030 made a while ago and had it painted like 1002 and then crashed it. But I think 1030 is not his… others will know and correct me if I’m wrong..

Not CM and the crashed car at Brands Hatch was a replica anyway.

Well I have to say that I love the 250LM and I think Porsche 917's are pretty OK too, and arguably the most significant of each is coming up for sale next year... Call me crazy, but I'd rather have 1030 than either one, with enough change to get some other very nice cars... (provided everything goes to some average estimate...)

Thanks Marcel, I knew the one CM crashed at Brands was a copy but thought he also owned 1002.... Ok.
