btw, just noticed that your car has the wrong offset rear wheels. You have the wheels from a ts/tb.

Forgive the intrusion of a cross-post, but if anyone is looking for a “factory” 348 challenge I have posted one/some of my duplicate race cars in the classified section and including a one of thirty two built 348 tb challenge car. Here’s a LINK and a photo of the car at Pebble Beach…

The US spider spec has the less offset ( wider look ) ….reading stuff on here even added spaces .This is for around 94 cars.

The EU spider has the greater offset ( narrower look ) .So I think they are the correct spec .

How ever there’s a helluva lot of stuff on here ( F chat ) regarding wheel offset , and various replacements from 360, 430 , + many others . Hard to sort the wheat from the chaff from first glance .

I am sure there are folks who can simplify 348 OEM rear wheel fitment difference between ts / tb and GTB / GTS and Spider in the two markets either side of the Atlantic

I understand softer spring rates ( rough pot holed eu roads ) and even with the 94 eu spiders like the GTB/ GTS different rear upper pick up points and different rear wishbones to soften , better communicate the breakaway oversteer point .- amongst other things ?

It’s been purchased to tour the eu particularly circumnavigate Italy in the summer …..thinking more GT rather than outright track god car .
I have a Porsche 987.2 boxster for ultimate handling, but it’s got a rock hard verging on harsh suspension set up .
Sure the flat 6 experience is there , but I prefer a tubi Ferrari V8 dog leg 5 speed to tootle over the Swiss alpine passes .
    I have done the passes in my 208 GT 4 with a mere 160 Hp from its 2.0 L V8 .

Driving a slow car fast is more fun than driving a faster slow .
It take a few yrs for that penny to drop ^

The “ passes “ in the summer like most eu great driving roads are busy almost precession like as you climb .
You can’t really safely “ pull a move “ rip past and overtake .
Last yr in my boxster I followed a 75 Merc 350 SL wallowing like a hippo on the bends . Behind me was a McLaren something and behind him a 488 pista . We all arrived at the summit in the same order 40 mins later .
There was a lot of noise behind - but zero overtaking .

No mention of offset in the eu spider owners hand book

Hummm… ok. I find this very surprising, but I haven’t looked at many euros spiders. I tried to find some documentation in “Original Ferrari V8” by Keith Bluemel but it was inconclusive.

That’s 1/2 the problem with all Ferrari docs . Trying to get a definitive answer .
Partly due to poor record keeping at the factory back in day , partly due to modal / parts changes / spec alternatives being added as hoc , as opposed to from this date chassis no they will have ( we will fit ) [ insert the mod / upgrade ] .

it’s gets more opaque when you toss in world market differences and go back each decade .

The 3#8 is riddled with this .
Iam not surprised there’s a bit with the 348 .

if you look @ this below there will be cars out there with mods but it’s dates don’t sync ! ….all we know is approx and the trend .

Evolution of the 348 series .

    1. 05/30/91 differential side seal—production improvement
    2. 05/30/91 Bosch starter motor changed to Nippon—production improvement
    3. 10/10/91 cam seal housing modification—reduced oil leakage
    4. 10/10/91 double plate-clutch changed in favor of single-plate clutch—production improvement
    5. 10/10/91 new alignment specs—improved handling
    6. 10/10/91 improved mounting of front bonnet grill to address warpage
    7. 10/10/91 front suspension shocks and springs—production improvement
    8. 06/01/92 rear A-arm fix point height reduction—production improvement
    9. 06/01/92 Delco Alternator changed to Nippon—production improvement
    10. 08/18/92 door grills—improved strength
    11. 08/24/92 oil sump tank ground strap—improved gauge operation
    12. 11/03/92 front timing bearing—reduced noise
    13. 08/18/93 harmonic balancer replacement—reduced weight - added 2hp

    14. 08/20/93 clutch thrust bearing/slave—production improvement

    Other factory enhancements:

the change in final drive ratio

    The 1994 348 Spiders have a 4.34 to 1 final drive ratio.

    The 1993 348 TS's have a final drive ratio of 3.53 to 1

The 1992 & 1993 Ferrari 348 tb and ts Serie Speciale had their rear track widened by 50mm from 1578mm to 1628mm by adding 25mm of offset to each wheel, and their final drive was shortened from 26/27 on the earlier cars to 25/29 on the SS. A taller fifth gear was fitted (early cars having p/n 70000592), to maintain top speed with the new lower main gear installed.

    The 1990 348 TB's have a final drive ratio of 3.56 to 1.

the stainless steel fuel line change, the major change to the Spider one-can exhaust from the old 2-can muffler, rear subframe upgrade to part number 4628, the change from the Motronic 2.5 to Motronic 2.7 ECUs (at and above chassis #86406), the increase in redline to 7800 RPMs (Spider, SS, Challenge, Competizione), the battery location switch from the rear bonnet to beneath the front bonnet (1992), larger intake plenums (for GTS, GTB, Competizione), 50mm wider track via 25mm wheel offsets, exhaust cam pulley setting re-indexed (U.S. Challenge 348's and Euro GTB, GTS, and Spiders), and the front bonnet A/C fuse switch from blade to inline bullet.

1989 model Ferrari 348's did not have the mad mouse seat belts. Early 1989 models had an external radio antenna.

1992 models and up came with body colored side skirts and spoilers. SS models had a reverse curve front spoiler (and small lip), removed rear grill, kevlar seats, chrome prancing horse "cavallino" emblems front and rear, strengthened door panels, leather interior door panels, and a taller 5th gear.

Challenge models also came with aluminum pedals, an alternate fuel pump, a lighter front bumper, roll cage mounts, carbon fiber brake cooling ducts, a bigger heat shield, rubberized tow hooks front and rear, exhaust timing advanced, and 18 inch speedline racing wheels (225/40 ZR 18 front and 265/40 ZR 18 rear).

Competizione models came with carbon fiber bumpers, aluminum and carbon fiber "thin" front bonnet and rear decklid, carbon fiber undertray, F40 half-shafts, upgraded fuel mapping in the ECU chips, lexan rear window, 15 inch brakes, and a strengthened frame.

It’s all part n parcel of owning a F car ….the hazy history from the factory.

    Hi all.
A couple of weeks ago I got a fantastic 1990 348 TS with some 60.000 kms.
Few days after the purchase I noticed an ad for a grey manual 360 spider at a very reasonable price.
Now I am split, as I already have a 328 that’s going to stay.
Just in case anyone is intersted in my 348 TS, then I can consider to set the 360 next to the 328.
    I am in Italy.
    Bye bye,
    Nic
