    Greetings and happy holidays!
Tried searching without much information, looking for some help.

I recently purchased a used 2003 Ferrari from a well established exotic dealer a few weeks ago and the car was Ferrari authorized dealer serviced at the same dealer for the past 11 years. It had major services done within the past 1 year including cam belts and tensionors.

After 2 weeks of ownership and 200 miles it has had some form of catastrophic engine failure, hopefully limited to the top end.

My questions are : How long is the typical warranty for parts and labor?
And second: Does this transfer over to the new owner?

Thank you so much in advance.

Most dealers give you 90 days full warranty on used Cars that were inspected and serviced by them

The warranty follows the car not the owner.

We have a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty on a majority of repairs we perform, pending OEM parts were used. If aftermarket parts were used, then we extend whatever warranty they come with. ( Most are parts only warranty and customer pay labor ) I would suggest reaching out to the repair facility and ask them directly, being up front as you were here, for the best results.

Let me know if I may help further,

    Steve

Gotta imagine with a service that fresh it would be covered to some extent, but again we're talking about a 21 year old car.

    What exactly happened?

    Thanks for the reply.
    Your warranty seems very generous.
Are you an independent service shop or affiliated with Ferrari?

It seems after speaking with authorized Ferrari dealers the warranty for parts and service is quite nebulous...which seems intentional to give them freedom and discretion if any "issues" arise.

Agree...however...what is this extent? 90 days? 1 year? 2 years?

Seems surprising to me that there is not a defined universal extent.

I can share more details as they arise.

SAFE4NOW is from a Ferrari dealer. That is Ferraris warranty program. There is nothing nebulous about it. If your experience is that a or several franchised Ferrari dealers have not represented it that way Ferrari North America would be very happy to know that. People, Ferrari dealers included get away with things because no one complains.

This is the dealer's fine print. Not reassuring.

Pay close attention to the last line. Seller's (servicing dealer) liability for defect in materials or workmanship shall terminate 90 days or 4,000 miles whichever is first.

Based on when you experienced an engine failure and when the timing belt was replaced, it sounds like you are in for an uphill battle. The servicing dealer will deny responsibility which leaves you with your contract from where you purchased it.

    Hans,

If you want, get the car to me, along with the un-redacted paperwork from Ferrari where the previous work was performed.
I will establish failure and if applicable, work with Ferrari on possible parts warranty repair.
If its not a parts warranty situation or otherwise not related, I will provide you with reasonable estimates as a FCA / FC member
ultimately getting you back on the road and enjoying your Ferrari ASAP.
If you want to send me paperwork first to look over, that's ok too, or just your chassis number, whatever works best for you.

And what matters is Ferrari's policy, not the dealers. They do not get to make their own rules.

I would take Steves offer. He has integrity. Its why I refer so much business to his store.

That is a very solid offer!

It's very refreshing to see someone willing to get involved in someone else's mess because it's the right thing to do. It's also good business. I'm impressed.

Well, it's been over a month, and there's still no official diagnostic written estimate from my local dealer. They have said they don't think it's related to any warranty work however.

My question now would be is this a normal time for a diagnostics? I have checked in a few times over the month.I feel like I've been very patient over the years...but this doesn't feel right.

It can be. Many cars won't be touched for 2 weeks when they go to a Ferrari store.

Now that maintenance is free. Lots of cars come back to the dealer and they are sorta understaffed at most facilities
