SF90 Stradale Resale

It is not difficult to turn up the boost or use electric power to go fast. They all do it these days. We are splitting hairs with performance, now it's just a matter of what someone prefers. Let's see them do it without the extra 500lbs and that will be impressive and innovative. The easy stuff is where they really fall short in tech, they are way behind. Happiness isn't wasting time and money making excuses for a company that you give/gave hundreds of thousands to though. I am done with that. I will buy the cars but at my discretion, not theirs.

 

Current Ferraris are the best cars in the history of the brand. So no, they are not releasing such great cars by chance. Engineering remains at the core of the firm. The 296 makes the already great F8 seem obsolete, which made the 488 seem like old news, which made the 458 look like a relic.

 

Of course it is, as these things come with the caveats of regulations, reliability and usability. If only it were that easy, to turn up to the boost. Especially when Ferrari limits the boost in order to make their cars feel more "normally aspirated".

 

Imagination? Didn't Koenigsegg recently make that for the 50th birthday celebration model for the founder? The CC850...you can use the fake clutch pedal and shifter or go into auto mode and apparently feels like an actual clutch when you use it. Maybe a good compromise.

At any rate I'm amazed that SF90 prices seem to not hold up to other supercars/exotic cars and I don't know why. It looks great in person and performance wise it looks incredible. That $430k Whistlindiesel SF90 seems like a bargain. Not sure why it's that low of a price vs others on resale. I see cookie cutter Pcars on BAT going for near that price all the time...and there are over a million 911s made over its history.

 

I would argue Ferrari's tech in the form of SSC and the way they integrate electric power steering, ABS and other powertrain systems to make exceptional driving dynamics makes them best in class.

 

I believe they are very good but not necessarily best in class. I'm curious to see how McLarens next model compares.

 

I would argue both BMW and PAG are just as good, if not better, in that respect.

The Cayenne Turbo GT drives like a car that is half its weight, with a COG about 40% lower than what it is. Granted the Puro is an engineering marvel as well, but it's more shooting brake/wagon than true SUV. And I still think PAG has the best EPAS system on the market.

And, really, I think when people talk about "tech" in cars, they're usually referring to UX and related inputs, not tech vis-a-vis engineering dynamics, though both are important.

Ferrari steering is their weakest link as it has the least feedback as compared to Mclaren and Porsche.

 

Sound. I really don’t care for the sound the SF makes to the point that I have no interest. If you don’t drive them- I understand the desirability on paper.

 

I had 765LT / Senna - SF90 steering feedback is weak? Have you driven one on a long spirited drive?
The weakest link of the SF90 is guys aren't driving themadd the guys who never have driven one - concerned over mileage / depreciation.
Been driving the Roma - excellent comfortable sounds good fast well balanced.

I never got people who wanted the wheel to kick back at every road imperfection.

 

Ferrari steering is definitely lacking in feel, but it doesn’t really matter. Cars like old 911s major on that and the sublime steering feel is a major part of the experience. But put that in something like a Pista and I think it would become a little distracting. The Pista is planted and the feel comes from the seat and the chassis. The job of the steering is to be accurate and faithful, something it does well.

I was really surprised by the Roma (Spider) - much better than I expected in the UK. But when we took it on a road trip to Europe, I went off it. I just missed the SF90 and realised the Roma is not a substitute. It’s its own thing, which is well and good, but it didn’t really entertain for long enough.

 

There’s a big difference between Ferrari’s steering feel and Porsche/ McLaren. It’s really not close. It’s the communication in the steering that the Ferrari lacks. Also Ferrari steering can feel too darty at times.

Regardless, the entire experience is why I buy Ferrari’s.

 

This is also a subjective matter. Some people don't like any interference in the helm. Personally, I like to steer a car with my fingertips. The Elise, which had the grittiest of all steering racks, was the most tiresome one, chattering away for no reason. You are a damn steering system, I want my nose to go "there"; don't bother me and do as I say!!!

 

Ok let's try this again - have you driven SF90 Assetto F with Carbon seats on a long spirited drive. So many versions of the SF90 one is not the same as another.
The XX has improved non AF suspension and offers that with a lift, while the AF version of the XX does not allow for a lift. Guessing next gen SF90 will not offer AF suspension and SF90 AF will be lthe HGTE version of 599.
Atelier & TM push the non AF on the XX by offering a lift at no charge - guessing it's directed from cost / supply.

 

Are you suggesting I have to drive an SF90 with certain options in a certain way to experience good steering feedback? Doesn’t that sound ridiculous?

Ferrari is notorious for having inferior steering feedback as compared to Porsche. It’s far from a deal killer as the car’s other attributes more than make up for such a deficiency. But it is a weakness.

Sure- some people like the lightness and hyper reflexive steering. And far more prefer a more natural (not artificial) feel with proper feedback.

You’re happy and prefer it. Great.

 

Also don’t forget having to drive it between 65-75 degrees and between 1-3 pm on a road that was paved within the last 3.5 years. Unless you’ve done that we can’t trust any opinions.

SF90 isn't unique in terms of steering feel relative to the last number of generations of Ferrari mid-engine cars.

My 458 had a quick front end with fairly limited steering feel and feedback, 296 and SF90 are similar. Which is fine (S2000 is set up like this too), but you really do notice it when driven back to back with something like a 987 Boxster or 997 GT3.

 

Exactly. Also my F12 & 812 GTS were/ are no different.

I have not experienced the latest version of Ferrari tech in the SF90 and 296. My latest experience is with the Pista and 488 before that. That tech was the worst thing ever. Navigation was useless. Sound system utter crap. The drive on the cars was great so ignored the lack of tech. If Ferrari was a tech company it must be something new.

 

Their tech is terrible, unusable and dangerous for drivers. There are reasons they have passenger screens.
