*Flameproof suit on...* Once I've renewed my Rosso membership (which ran out a couple of days ago), I'll be putting what approximates to half my Dino up for sale as a single lot. Before I do that, I'd appreciate some constructive feedback as to what percentage of the value of a complete car I should pitch it at. In essence, I will be keeping the chassis/bodyshell including all three bonnets/trunks/lids, the doors, the fuel flap, all the glass, all lights, the chrome trims, the handbrake lever, the steering wheel and the bumpers/fenders. And, of course, its identity. Everything else I have will be included (every part will be photographed and where relevant, measurements provided). As far as I know I have everything will the possible exception of the glove box, which I can't seem to find - I may never have had it. So, in rough terms: Engine (stripped, with masses of new parts, dynamically balanced crank and flywheel, etc.) Brand new Dinoplex ignition system Carbs and air filter New clutch (actually there are two new clutches) Transmission (as removed from car, not stripped) Brand new stainless headers and exhaust system (never fitted) Original exhaust and headers Fuel tanks and plumbing Seats Dashboard and instrument console Gear lever / gate assembly 5 x Cromodora wheels with 4 x 'hub caps' All wishbones Steering column and rack together with a brand new, never fitted Superformance quick-rack conversion Driveshafts Radiator Oil Cooler Fans Wiring harness Plus boxes and boxes of brackets, plates all the original nuts, bolts, screws, washers, etc. It is a 1972 246GT RHD car, s/n 03472, located in SW UK. So - what percentage should I be aiming for? Any constructive comments would be most appreciated!
Hi Paddy, I am sure you could easily sell the individual parts on here or eBay. I am in the uk and are looking for SS headers and exhaust maybe radiator and maybe a few more pieces Ray
I'm sure you're right - I didn't want to part with anything until now as I wanted to ensure that I had all the relevant dimensions recorded before fabricating their replacements (mostly, I'm talking about the wishbones/A arms). Which part of the UK are you in? If you're anywhere close to Devon, I'd suggest that you come and see what I have!
Percentage of what? So confused PUt it on BAT for highest prices needs to be in USA, perhaps 50k Euro En Total
As I understand it you are selling essentially all of the parts that make up a Dino except for the chassis, shell, and some major external trim bits like glass and bumpers. Of course the massive bulk of the value is in the parts you are keeping most notably the vehicle identity. How much that is from a percentage standpoint is very difficult to say but I would take an educated guess that sold as a lot you could recover maybe 20-30% of the value of a finished car. Sold off in major pieces the number is probably closer to 40%. Its your car and you can do as you wish but it is important to understand that your choice to sell it apart comes with a significant financial penalty compared to including the shell and selling as a project for someone.
The story begins here : https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/selling-dino-parts.687198/ And another Dino butchered. Not a *constructive* comment, just my opinion.
The car has already been butchered by time - that, together with the fact that the previous owner swapped all the best bits over onto his other Dino means that you couldn't do a truly authentic restoration on it if you tried. At best it'd be a simulation of the original, so I'm doing something else with it.
No - the bits in question (mostly internal trim, etc.) were simply better than the ones on his other car.
Paddy, good to hear from you. It has been many months that I requested a price for the dashboard and gauges. You ask for "constructive comments", so here you go... To be quasi precise, it has been over 6 months, cannot give you an exact date, as too tiresome to look for it. Tedious, and auction are the two words that best describe doing business with you. You do not have prices in mind, yet compare your parts, to the biggest high $ parts dealers in the world, and that is not right. Either you want so much for something or list it on BaT. I highly suggest it and spare us all of the ordeal. Actually, spare yourself. You like playing games, at least with me, and I am not interested in that. I am too old for games. I understand you had somebody else in line for said parts, so good luck to the next in line..... Regards and Happy New Year! Alberto PS. And yes, "you are butchering a Dino" PPS. Reading back on your initial listing about your intentions, look at how many unanswered / mid sentence, replies / questions and fed up people are there...
If you have the chassis, the body, the original engine and transmission + many other parts, where is the problem to restore #03472 properly ? You can find almost all the missing parts today.
I'm sorry that you feel that way, Alberto - with regard to the instruments I have asked you to make me an offer on several occasions, but all you've done is send me links to cheaper examples that are nothing like mine, leaving me nowhere to go. Neither you nor I were able to find a RHD dashboard for sale anywhere in the world, so finding a baseline value to start from wasn't possible. I'm certainly not into playing games - a sensible offer would have seen the matter concluded in days. For anyone doubting my integrity - I sold the front and rear Dino bodyshells/clips to a gentleman member of this site who lives in Germany without a hitch. We agreed a price and I then put an enormous amount of effort into building him a one-off scaffold frame to protect them. I don't think the deal could have gone any more smoothly...
So you are not building a one off, you are just selling dino parts under the guise of resto mod ..yes? I have sold plenty of items to Alberto and you could not wish to deal with a better person nee gentleman, the problem is your end. Set the price and he can say yes or no.
Yes, I am building a one-off RestoMod. Like you have experienced, all my dealings with Alberto have been courteous and gentlemanly. We went backwards and forwards with no progress over the dashboard - I don't think either of us was to blame there as neither of us could find a RHD dash to establish a baseline value. Unfortunately, things ground to a halt a bit later when I sent him an example of a very similar RHD/UK (English script) Dino instrument console to mine as a starting point for price negotiations on that. As a reply, he then sent me links to a string of unmatched LHD clocks with Italian script from all manner of other makes (Lambos, etc.) which were so far from what I was offering that after getting no reply to a request that he make me an offer, I gave up. It's certainly not me that likes playing games...
Thank you Tony, You are very kind... The issue is that even if Paddy disagrees, he referenced his prices to "6 carb" a famous Ferrari re-seller in the UK, that has exorbitant prices. I went mid ground, no reply. I just am not interested in dealing with Paddy business wise. He is also a gentleman, yet indecisive. I mean over 8 months to reach a price for a dash and gauges? I didn't think so. I wish Paddy the very best in his quest for selling all his Dino parts, and to the eventual buyer(s) in reaching a conclusion. Kind Regards, Alberto
Paddy is not interested, he wants to build a "restomod" or whatever. Next SEMA show, or Birmingham. End of story.
All true. There are a few others too Alberto, the £7k asking price for a shell / ferrari duster is ambitious bordering daylight robbery. I guess someone will pay the price but i would like to think it will sit on their shelf for many years.
