Those might be official production numbers, BUT the total F50 was 377 units, the total Enzos was 498, the total LF was 639, the total LF Apertas was 241.

The numbers I quoted are the official. Thank you for correcting them since I know your numbers are the real ones.

You're right, it's not driven by any regulation, it's driven by the greed of Ferrari's execs who wanted to cut costs by not designing a proper supercar engine, a new NA V12.

Ferrari spend lots of money on innovation, what do you mean by new V12? if customers would boycott 296 then maybe Ferrari would think twice but nothing like that never happens

I would bet that Ferrari spent plenty developing the F80. It might not have been the development direction you or I would have preferred (I'd love to see the V12 they'd come up with given a clean sheet of paper and a €500mn R&D budget). But I don't think we got here because they were penny pinching...

there was one successful boycott when Porsche put 2 liter engine in Boxster, sales where poor so they put V6 NA in Boxster and Cayman

I got to see the car this weekend, it's very impressive. Much more so than the new V 12. Tremendous job on the styling, beautiful from every angle.

Carbon tub. Most sophisticated ETurbo on the market. Most sophisticated adaptive suspension on the market. Titanium 3d printed parts. F1 tech HVB. F1 electric motor at the front. Carbon fibre wheels as standard. What do you think they cheaped out on?

The F40 being an awful drivers cars with terrible brakes (I agree with this) and being laugh out loud fun, can both be true at the same time!

What Clarkson absolutely correctly values is how the car made him feel emotionally, through sound and feel. more Insane power, brakes, tyres and aero etc have diminishing returns if not a detrimental effect after a certain point in road car enjoyment.

    Exactly.

    Well said.

Others feel differently. But this sentiment is shared by many enthusiasts.

Seeing the car I liked it much more than the pictures. The opposite happened with the Dodichi Cilindri, not as impressive in person as the pictures.

Since these things are subjective, everyone should judge for themselves. What is objective is that newer cars are quantifiably better in all performance metrics. Whether one cares or not about these metrics is also subjective. Not improving on performance though goes against the very ethos of engineering. Even though some things work and don't need to change, this mentality reminds me of this:

By the way Ladas served their specific role well, so it's not a reproach against them.

So are we to take from this that you have a Lada for every day of the week; except for Sunday when you walk to church instead? :)

I am sure you have (deliberately) missed my point. :) I would have to say though that in the western world Ladas (and some other Soviet vehicles; I have taken particular interest in Chaikas lately) have become sort of cult classics, like the original Mini and old Land Rovers. All of them are classless vehicles, that is what makes them enticing and alluring.

PS: Church? What is that? ;)

Yup. It's only when you drive one and then drive a perfect modern ferrari that you understand this. I remember we took a 4 days trip to one of the FCA Events with the F40 and the Enzo. I found myself wanting to drive the F40 more often bc the Enzo was just cuddling me too much and the F40 was making me fight for everything. Cornering, changing gears, keep it straight, keeping the power band on...etc. Even in the rain I picked the keys and "let" my father drive the Enzo. I feel like to get the same excitement from the Enzo would have required much more open road.
