Isn't Red Bull switching to Ford engines soon? Honda is a big backer of Yuki. Wonder if Yuki will end up landing at Aston since Aston and Honda are getting cozy.

Not sure Lawson is up for the seat at this point, but I guess we'll all find out together.

It's just a re-badging meaning Ford is just placing their name on a Honda engine.

Tsunoda seems to get really pissed off a lot and goes on radio tirades, which can't make him easy to work with. I wonder if they perceive Tsunoda's overall temperament as a more difficult issue to fix than Lawson's inconsistent form.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

So, you think 2026 will see a Honda-Ford lashup powering Red Bull, and also a "real" Honda engine at Aston Martin ?

I don't think so with RedBull. Ford will be on the engine cover(sponsor).

    Agreed on the AMRF1.

Sponsorship no but the foundations of the engine will have Honda origins....imo. More like a copy-and-paste. Unless you have another suggestion of what you think it could be.

I suppose that Honda will keep the IP of their engine, and not let Red Bull Powertrain simply put a Ford badge on it.
Red Bull Powertrain will have to design their own PU. Ford has said they will help on the electric side; we will see.
In any case, although the rules keep the same engine size and configuration, it will be a 50/50 divide between ICE and electric power, as far as I understand. That call for a rethink of the system, with more electric energy delivered that at present, needing a more powerful electric motor. The ICE will be more solicited as generator than before. Also, there won't be a MGU-H anymore.
This make me think we will see a new generation of powertrains, and not simply a rehash of the present one.

Ummmm no I don’t think that’s right. The 2026 engines are all new - so are you saying Honda designs them and lets Ford slap their logo on it? My understanding is Ford is working with Red Bull to design the power trains to the 2026 spec.

LOL good one. I missed that post :) Latest from the press on Perez and his statement over the weekend about a 'sabbatical'. I dont sense options in F1 for him at this point. 2024 was anything but a good season for his CV.

Perez will assess F1 options 'in six months' - but will there be any?
    https://www.the-race.com/formula-1/perez-will-assess-f1-options-in-six-months-but-will-there-be-any/

--However, even if Perez decides over the next few months that he wants to get himself back in F1 action, his options for a swift comeback appear to be quite limited as most drivers on the grid now are on long term deals so there are not too many vacancies.

Further hampering his chances are that, out of the four current teams that could have empty cockpits for 2026, none seem to be a particularly good match.

A return to Red Bull as a potential Liam Lawson replacement will not happen, and there is little reason to see Racing Bulls having any interest in him if either Yuki Tsunoda or Isack Hadjar do not stay.

At Mercedes, neither George Russell nor Andrea Kimi Antonelli are guaranteed beyond the end of this year, but even if one of them moves on, the team would be highly unlikely to view Perez as its best option.

The only other avenue could in theory be Alpine, which has Jack Doohan on a short term deal. However, it is pretty much accepted that if Doohan does not deliver and the team wants to slot someone else in then that will be its reserve Franco Colapinto.

This all means that Perez has little hope of anything opening up with the current squads.

However, a lifeline could be offered by the new Cadillac squad.
It will be eager to get some experience on tap if its entry for 2026 is confirmed, and Perez also has the bonus potential of having some pretty major sponsors behind him.

By the time Perez gets around to making a call on his future in six months, then Cadillac will almost certainly know whether its place on the grid has been formally signed off by both the FIA and FOM.--

This was part of his statement recently released - Not sensing thats an honest statement LOL

“Everything happened so quickly at the end of last season. I did not expect to leave the team.”

So, you think Red Bull, Racing Bulls and Aston Martin will share the same Honda power unit in 2006, with different logos?

The announcements from RBPT, Aston and Honda don't support that theory.

They hired Honda engineers to work at MaxBull PowerTrains.

Masashi Yamamoto, Honda’s former F1 managing director, will leave the company to set up a consultancy firm to work with Red Bull.

That doesn't mean the 2026 RBTP engine will have anything to do with Honda.

Do you think the 2026 Aston Martin will be a rebadged Red Bull, because Newey has moved from one to the other ?

Engineers move from team to team in F1, but they don't take the IPs with them.

At one point, Ferrari hired an ex-Honda engineer (Gotto, I think). Would you say the engine he designed for Ferrari was a Honda one ?

he's a good driver, just didn't hack it in the ground downforce cars and looked even worse next to Max.

I kinda think Perez snookered himself though with taking the RB deal early in 2024, maybe he should've made a bigger play for Indycar, if that's where he wanted to go. Now he's too late for a full season Indycar drive, that's for sure, and once that last bit of candle goes out from not driving anywhere in 2025, good luck getting back...That said he comes with decent money, but still.

WEC/GTD etc will easily be open for him of course.

That RB settlement will tide him over for the next few years at least.
